Edwards Returns to 2004 Campaign Theme

WASHINGTON, (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is bemoaning the growing divide between rich and poor as he returns to the signature theme of "Two Americas" from his unsuccessful 2004 White House bid.

Looking to break out from under two leading rivals, Edwards planned to focus on the economic gap that he argues has widened since his last run.

"Our tax system has been rewritten by George Bush to favor the wealthy and shift the burden to working families. That is simply wrong," Edwards said, according to text provided by his campaign. "There are still Two Americas."

He planned to deliver the speech at Cooper Union college in New York.

The economic theme was at the core of his first bid, while this time he has focused on opposition to the Iraq war, universal health care and his work to fight poverty. He is putting a new emphasis on economic themes as he tries to expand his campaign beyond Iowa, where he holds the edge in some polls based in part on his ties from the last campaign and organization.

But Edwards trails Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama in other states. The campaign recognizes that while momentum out of Iowa could help propel Edwards, he needs to make gains elsewhere to compete. He plans a new focus on New Hampshire in particular in coming weeks.

there are two Americas; his and ours.

He’s being redundant, anyway, and certainly not original.

Why don’t he and his lawyer buddies give all their millions to poor people? That would reduce the rich-poor gap quite a bit. Somehow, I don’t think the Edwards could do without their tens-of-thousands sq. ft. home or jet or luxury cars. Or expensive presidential campaigns. What a joke.

Two Americas = haves and the have nots.

Thanks a lot, Mr. Edwards...perpetuate the myth that the reason the have nots don’t have anything is because of the white male “haves” dominating society.

And by the way Mr. Edwards, YOU are one of those rich white males.

What a ding-dong! And those who swallow his message of “concern” for the little people, are dumber than he is.

So just how much of his ill-gotten wealth does he give to help raise up the Other America? If the record of most of these other phonies is any guage, it is virtually ZERO! He wants to help the Other America with your money, not his.

So here we have a guy who lives in a 30,000 sq. ft. palatial estate on hundreds of acres of ground, has more money than most of us will never have even a hope of having, flies all around the country in private jets, uses more energy in a day than most of us would in a year, and he’s going to lecture us about “Two Americas”? The quintessential rich white guy laying a guilt trip on us working stiffs about having the meager things we have? Sorry, but unless it’s “love your hypocritical brother week”, pretty-boy Edwards can just STFU.

His 28,000 square foot house is big enough to be its own America.

You guys need to layoff Edwards.

He’s just a simple man living in a simple 28,200 square foot shanty who wakes up each and every morning with one goal...

To help the poor.
