SAN DIEGO Seven people were hospitalized early Thursday morning after a car fleeing from the Border Patrol on a rural highway collided with a tree about 50 miles east of San Diego, the Border Patrol reported.
The crash occurred about 4:15 a.m. on Old Highway 80 and Ribbonwood Road, about two miles west of Boulevard, according to Border Patrol spokesman Richard Smith.
Agents had initiated a pursuit of a car heading eastbound on Old Highway 80 from Tierra del Sol that they suspected was carrying illegal immigrants near Campo, Smith said.
The driver apparently lost control of the car at Old Highway 80 and Ribbonwood, about a mile south of Interstate 8, and the vehicle slammed into an oak tree, Smith said.
The driver escaped, leaving seven people in the vehicle four in the passenger compartment and three in the trunk, the agent said. All seven, five men and two women, were taken to hospitals with various injuries, he said.
Further details, including the conditions of those found in the car, were not immediately available.
So, now are they going to charge the Border Patrol with attempted murder?

Is it in Johnny Sutton’s district?
Those agents could end up doing hard time in prison.
How long before the BP agents are indicted?
First reaction thoughts to this story: who will be suing the Border Patrol? What kind of trouble will the Border Patrol agents be in? Will the property owner of the tree have liability? ETC Assuming that this will not be regarded as illegals committing illegal acts, but instead as some kind of preventable actions by the Border Patrol and area landowners..

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS
“So, now are they going to charge the Border Patrol with attempted murder?”
Of course, it’s inevitable. B.P. shouldn’t have planted that Oak tree.

Duncan Hunter’s, I believe.
MM are you listening to Roger Hedgcock? He just blew the roof of the Haditha charges.
Every week, almost every day lately, we read about one of these rigs full of aliens crashing. The Medical bills for the collisions is more than any contribution economically by illegal aliens.
Good old AuntB and Uncle Graybeard will pay for it.
‘collided with a tree’
Dang! I hate it when that happens. Pesky trees!
Those darn Canadians are always up to mischief.
Yeah, we sure will Graybeard. Now we know our purpose in life.:<)
Maybe, but the Bush Administration is busy putting combat troops in prison right now.
But they will be offering amnesty to the illegals.
No, where can I get more info on this?
Those agents could end up doing hard time in prison.
They just might if what's stated below is true.
Convicted border agent tells his story
By Sara Carter
Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Kanof said, Ramos and Compean had no business chasing someone in the first place.
"It is a violation of Border Patrol regulations to go after someone who is fleeing," she said. "The Border Patrol pursuit policy prohibits the pursuit of someone."
