Dick Morris: Bloomberg Could Win Presidency
A Michael Bloomberg presidential campaign could prove to be more than just a spoiler in a Democrat versus Republican battle he could actually win the White House as an independent, according to political analyst Dick Morris.
"If Mike Bloomberg decided to run for president, he would have a strong chance of winning the election, Morris told NewsMax after Bloomberg's announcement on Tuesday that he was switching his party status from Republican to unaffiliated.
"As a social liberal and a fiscal conservative, he fits what most Americans want. And unlike Ross Perot, the last independent candidate for president, he is an experienced politician who has succeeded in handling the second toughest press corps in the world in New York City.
"If he ran, he would not just be a spoiler, but would have a serious chance of becoming president.
Bloomberg's departure from the GOP is the latest hint that the New York City mayor is eying a White House run. He has also fueled presidential buzz with increasing out-of-state travel, including a stop in New Hampshire last weekend.
And on Monday he voiced his frustration with the presidential candidates, saying the U.S. is "in trouble because of their refusal to address important issues.
With an estimated worth of more than $5 billion, Bloomberg could easily underwrite a presidential run, just as Perot did in 1992. A Bloomberg campaign "could have a significant impact on the campaign, said independent pollster Scott Rasmussen.
"Nationally, there's a significant segment of the electorate that would give serious consideration to Bloomberg as a candidate.
Fall in the floor funny. Dickie Boy gets paid for this?
Although a Bloomberg/Sharpton ticket might rattle your feathers, the Twelfth Amendment effectively prohibits a President and Vice-president from the same state; the electors from one state MUST vote for a citizen of another state for president, vice-president, or both.
IMHO, DM has the right idea, but the wrong person.
If Giuliani ran as an Independent, with the right VP, that could spell trouble.
Presidency of what?
But..but...I thought no one could beat hillary because of her sex!!
Morris is just getting absurd at this point.
Another proof that Morris is a simple idiot.
There is no way in hell that Bloomberg would do anything but throw the dimbulb primaries into a complete and utter disarray.
As an independent, he would ensure the election of a conservative.
Morris is too stupid to see that.
can this guy get any more idiotic?
Michael Bloomberg is 5’7”. He cannot win the presidency as long as television is with us.
Bloomberg's not that desperate.
Morris is one of the only people I know who has worked for high ranking liberal Democrats and high ranking conservative Republicans. How he won their trust is beyond me, because right now, the only thing everyone of all political stripes can agree on is that Morris is a contemptible little man of limited character and less talent.
His almost total unemployability, by anyone except the more sensationalist news media, is legendary.
Yep! And the sun could rise in the west. The Gulf of Mexico could freeze over...
Bloomberg has the gay and a-hole vote wrapped up (since he embodies both)...other than that, he is SOL.
Dick, stick with the toe sucking man.
See you have to win electoral votes. What states do you project that Bloomberg would win? Eh?
Speaking as an analyst .... the Libertarians tend to be quite socially liberal and fiscally conservative. IMHO it sounds like a Bloomberg-Paul ticket could be competitive.
Apparently, the vast majority of citizens of this country (including a LARGE contingent on Free Republic) would like nothing better than for the federal, state and local governments to dictate every aspect of their daily lives.
Bloomberg is perfect for that.
Three pushy New York liberals. Every leftist's wet dream. Maybe Duncan Hunter could slip in as a 4th Party Candidate to represent the rest of America.
I am less certain of the outcome. Enlighten me. What is your analysis that convinces you he would help elect a conservative?
