I've heard a lot of complaints about Office 2K7, but I like it.

I was still running OfficeXP until a few months ago when I just downloaded open office to run off my portable HDD.

Who buys this stuff? Open Office is free folks. Does the same thing.

I've found two principal irritants, but it's a pretty good product otherwise - (1) the new file formats mean that you have to remember to save a backward-compliant version for those of your co-workers who are still on 2003, and (2) the user interface for Word is quite different and for Excel is somewhat different. Neither one is a show-stopper.
Don't get me started on Vista, though...

http://www.openoffice.org/ downloads for free and is free to use. I will be damned if I make the richest geek in the world any richer.

Can you run Office 2007 with XP? Somebody had told me that you needed Vista to make O2007 work.

I am so sick of Microsoft and Vista. They keep pushing updates that wreck established functions. Vista is the work of Satan.
Having said that, the trial version of Office 2007 cannot be uninstalled and it causes you to go catatonic and eat methadone and ultimately cough up big bucks.

Windows 2k7 is simply a huge memory hog. It has a new interface that isn’t bad, but like any change, will cause problems.
Worse of all, people who save docs in native 07 format will not be read by previous editions of Word, etc. That’s M$’s way of getting everyone to buy this new, higher-priced stuff.

All my personally owned windows boxes are Windows 2000. It has provided a good platform. I recently downloaded the CTP of Visual Studio with .Net 3.0 (Orcas). It can't be installed on Windows 2000. The target must be XP SP2 or better. The new WCF and WPF API will supplant the old standard win32 API. I need to get up to speed on the new API so my skills aren't rendered obsolete by the march of technology. That means wiping out a Windows 2000 machine and pressing forward to Vista to make a leap into the present. Too bad. I wasn't anxious to take that step. Failure to do so means my skills become obsolete too. That's not acceptable. I hope Vista is good for at least another 10 years (at least the new API element).

I’m working on getting used to the differences in Office 2007 (home ‘puter). I’m still not sure where to find all of the editing stuff!!!
It looks good, though!

As someone who has been using Office Professional 2000 since 1999 and who has maybe tapped 1/10 of 1% of all the available features, I gotta wonder what my motivation would be to even consider Office 2007?

The change every Damn thing which in truth costs Billions of dollars in lost productivity as workers are forced to learn what they already know how to do. I have the new prod and it is no better but I must waste time learning how to access key funtionalities..There is another model of software development where you get a new package but it looks identical to the old one and slowly over time at your pace adds new form and functonality.
In the time It took to read this you blinked probably 4 time.
In that time Bill Gates earned 56 thousand dollars from MS.
Now you understand why illegals and B1B Visas are so important... Money is tight..real tight for Billionaires on a budget.

I know a lot of folks still using MS Office 97. I’m encouraging anyone who really wants to upgrade to use OpenOffice instead.

Oh, no! Every time MS upgrades the Office applications, they all get worse and more cumbersome. Glad I’m retiring this year; I won’t have to deal with another grueling and annoying “upgrade”.

Thank God I still have the disks laying around.
No Office 2007 or Vista for me.
