I can’t wait until it becomes the NASCAR Hooter’s Cup Series. Woo Hoo!

***

Then, the femi-nazis would come along and complain.

How about the Preparation H-Pepto Bismol series?

Ever wonder if he and Tony George have some kind of contest going to see who can screw up a racing league the worst?

The only thing that might really make NASCAR better would be to change all their races to a series of heat races.

I propose a joint sponsorship between Hooter's and Square D.

They could call it The Car of Tomorrow Racing League.

Not sure about the rest of you, but 10-15 years ago, I would gladly buy anything with NASCAR’s logo on it or anything produced by a company who sponsored some portion of the sport. Now, I will not buy anything directly tied to NASCAR. If there are two brands of something I am considering and one is the official whatever of NASCAR, I’m buying the other one. I am so sick of the COT, and the Chase, and green-white-checker, and the favoritism, and the tire rule, and the testing rule. Bring back the good old late 80’s and early 90’s with bias-ply tires and drivers who were all old enough to shave.

I know that I'm in the minority, but I like what Tony George did. Open-wheel racing had major, major problems under the surface and Tony George made some hard, but necessary, decisions instead of passing the buck.

I think that George was a little heavy-handed in his approach, but I think he ultimately did what he needed to do. Part of the problem, unfortunately, is people like Penske who refused to play along until it was obvious that CART (now Champ Car) didn't have a future without the 500. Folks like Penske (and now Paul Newman) who try and duke it out with the IMS are hurting open-wheel racing and further encouraging young drivers to bolt to NASCAR instead of open-wheel.

What about calling it the D-Cup then?

How about the Redneck Cup?

Why not? NASCAR has always been the Mecca of Rednecka.

I agree with you, I used to go to Talladega every year. It started when they changed rules all year, taking away from Dodge and giving to Pontiac so that Tony Stewart could win his first championship.

Man, don't get me started with that little punk. He knows who his sponsor is and their relationship with NASCAR. That's why he does and says whatever he wants, knowing he will have to kill someone to get suspended. It's a shame because I was a big TS fan his first few years in Cup. Since then, he has become no different than Harvick, or the Busch's. A collection of ill-mannered, belligerent twerps.

The sport was so much better back when owners generally stayed away from anyone younger than their late 20's. With the invasion of "kids", there has been an erosion of respect. Contrary to popular belief, dumping someone on the last lap just because you were close enough to ram their bumper, was once taboo. Sure Earnhardt built a reputation on it, but he was smart enough to spread it out over a career. Now, not only is it accepted, it's expected. #ell, any jacka$$ can ram the car in front of them. Real drivers pass another car without touching it.

I was never a fan of Earnhardt (when he was alive), but now I understand how important he was to the sport. He was old school and had the star power to keep NASCAR in line with its roots. It wasn’t much of a problem when Bill Jr. was running things, but Brian France had to be held in check. With the loss of Dale Sr. and no leadership from Dale Jr., Brian has been able to convert the sport to what he and his California buddies think it should be. An advertising company.

NASCAR just screwed the pooch on that lawsuit with this move.

They are suing AT&T for $100 million for REBRANDING the 31 car after AT&T bought out Cingular. Then they turn around and REBRAND the series after Sprint bought out Nextel.

No way NASCAR wins the lawsuit after that.
