For weeks, Americans were told that there are only two options for dealing with the nation's illegal immigration problem: stay with the status quo or accept a "grand bargain"--a tenuous behind-closed-doors deal, first made public by The Heritage Foundation, which contained nearly 800 pages of flawed policies. In the face of overwhelming criticism from all sides, this legislation was withdrawn from the Senate.
Now, an altogether new bill (S. 1639) has been introduced by Senators Ted Kennedy and Arlen Specter. It seems to incorporate the previous legislation, with some amendments. After it is read into the Senate calendar on Wednesday, the Majority Leader will be able to proceed to consider this legislation anew at any time; debate is likely to follow later this week, with a final vote very soon thereafter.
This schedule will afford lawmakers even less time for consideration and deliberation than they had before. It will deny them the various procedures long associated with America's deliberative lawmaking process--hearings, testimony, committee debate and amendments, floor debate, and the possibility of further amendments. Instead, according to reports, this legislation will proceed based on an altogether new and expedited procedure designed for the sole purpose of forcing the bill's many ill-conceived policies over legitimate minority objections.
As it has before, for the sake of open deliberation and public education, The Heritage Foundation is making this legislation publicly available to encourage widespread debate and discussion. Heritage Foundation analysts will be reading this legislation and considering its implications--as will everyone outside the confines of the narrow group that conceived it--as quickly as possible.
S.1639: The Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007
[large file, not suitable for dial-up]
Frankly, I’m 100% conservative. However, the GOP is not listening. They are turning to what they were before Ronald Reagan. Why did they succeed under Reagan as they did? He defined what the core conservative principals were and held the party to them. Why did they succeed under Newt Gingrich and his “Contract with America?” He defined what conservative was and held the party to it.
The GOP had it all, but in their attempt to pander, compromise, appeal to specific voting blocks ..... they will turn into an ambiguous mess, as they were prior to Reagan. You watch, they will put a McCain or Guiliani on their ticket (As they see it "electable" candidate). They will also loose in 2008 because an uninspiring candidate combined with an alienated base, equates to failure. When they fail however, their answer is already known; blame it on Iraq.
How many pages in this one?
>>Does that 800 number to our senators still work?<<
Yes! 1-800-417-7666 is the English number!
“Here we go again.”
What was that phrase I heard once, something about “consent of the governed”?
418 according to the PDF page count. Glancing through it now.
Now called: S.1639
Unaccompanied Alien Child Protection Act of 2007 (Placed on Calendar in Senate)
>>Im so tired of reading these bills.....Why start with a new bill, itll be the same ol tired AMNESTY. Ugh<<
It might be worse. McCain passed an amendment about back taxes due when the got green cards, but I can’t find that in the “new, improved” bill.
I haven’t seen, or realized it as such, any of the amendments passed by Cornyn, Coburn, Dole, etc to the old S.1348.
I have downloaded it and started to review it. The first 167 pages of the 418 pages have to do with border and employer enforcement. It now sunsets the guest worker program [Y visa] after 5 years [Dorgan amendment]. They want to accelerate the Partnership for Prosperity. The H1B visa numbers stay the same as the previous bill, i.e, an increase to 115,000 in 2008 and raising it up to 180,000 thereafter. Still reading.
Now we know why. We all erred in believing Bush was a man of character. He is not.
It's up to the conservative blogosphere to save it.
There is no freedom without sacrifice.
The U.S.A is the last hope for freedom and justice in the world .
Here is how they hope to destroy the U.S. and with it freedom:
Liberals and Bush want to turn the U.S.A into a socialist Venezuela or a 3rd world country with the passage of this Amnesty bill:
From the Washington Times: Amnesty Bill permits 193 million more aliens from the 3rd world
This is basically the same bill.
It still gives amnesty and the vote to 200 milion 3rd, illiterate 3rd world people.
This is so they can take our jobs, benefits, prosperity, land, liberty and country away. This country is our property.
This email list has the emails of the top aides to all the Senators in Alphabetic order by Senator.
I just copied each paragraph block of emails and pasted it to my yahoo email "to:" box,
one of those paragraph blocks of emails at a time.
And it worked. If you want to email them all at once you can do it this way
You can also email just one top aide for a specific senator
if you want to by copying and pasting the email address. List is in alphabetical order by Senator.

He is beyond stupid.
>>I havent seen, or realized it as such, any of the amendments passed by Cornyn, Coburn, Dole, etc to the old S.1348.<<
I wonder if this new tactic is because they were afraid that they wouldn’t get 60 votes because some of the Dems didn’t like certain pesky amendments?
Our President is a Globalist and it seems his loyalties are to Globalism - not to the United States which he is sworn to defend.
I had heard there would be ONE amendment. Why is the one amendment now listed sponsored by Dole? I thought she was on our side?
When is this going to be on C-Span?
This new tactic is: WE KNOW BETTER THAN YOU. WE”RE SMARTER THAN YOU. SHUT UP AND GO BACK TO BE DOCILE CITIZENS WHO KEEP VOTING US IN OFFICE.
Since that YouTube video from the H1B law firm came out showing how they make a mockery of the law, I oppose the H1B increases (I supported them before). Instead, we should push an amendment making illegal the crap that the law firms pull to “pretend” they are looking for American workers when they really just want to hire cheap foreign labor.
