Carl Chestnut, wounded in the head and torso, will face armed robbery charges once he is released from East Jefferson General Hospital, Col. John Fortunato, a Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office spokesman, said Monday.
The 53-year-old woman, whose name wasnt released, and her son were in the drive-through line at an Arbys Roast Beef Restaurant early Monday when Chestnut, 44, walked up and pointed a gun at her, demanding their money and the car, Fortunato said. ...

I thought we could all use a story with a happy ending.

While acknowledging the gamble succeeded, authorities stressed that its safer to cooperate in such a case. I think that the individual in that situation is best capable of determining whether or not they should cooperate.

There was less violence in the old west when everyman carried a gun than now when almost no one except the police and criminals can go packin’.

Somebody raised a boy who knows what a man is supposed to do. A happy ending for sure.

This is good. This is what the left wants to outlaw. The left wants you to just give in and die.
No thanks!

Once the youth got the gun, he shot Chestnut several times, Fortunato said. I'm thinking the young lad may have been just a bit pissed off.
Good job!
Give them the money and give them the keys, Sheriff Harry Lee said. You make an insurance payment on your car, and nobody gets shot.
I take execption to Bufford T's statement...what are you saying?....let him have the car and still make the insurance payment? What?

It always amazes me how random death seems to be. You hear stories about people catching a single stray bullet and dying, while this carjacker gets several well-deserved shots to the head and torso and lives.

Once.. just
once... I would like to see the "authorities" put a sock in that
"it's safer to cooperate..." blather, because if there is any conclusion that can be drawn from the horrific crime stories we read every day is that--it isn't.
This story had a happy ending, but if the kid hadn't had the guts to protect his Mom and the balls to make it work, it might not have.
A good kid. Some local "authority" should be lining up some kind of award ceremony for him.

As far as I'm concerned, this statement is an argument against complying. If the kid and his mom had just given in, someone who needed shooting would not have been shot.

The full article did not say whether any charges would be filed against the 17 year old. Not being intentionally cynical here, just realistic. The perp can sue too.
And the article described the son as a “boy” — I would describe him as a young man.

Maybe, or maybe not...the robber might have taken them along with the car - raped the mother, and killed her and the kid. Instead he was shot. Good job, kid!
