Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, during his narrowly unsuccessful bid as the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, excoriated President Bush for his handling of the war in Iraq, and has only stepped up the volume of his criticisms in the years since.
But Kerry was one of a sizable number of Democrats who were in the Senate in October 2002 and voted then to authorize Bush to use military force as an option to oust the Iraqi regime of dictator Saddam Hussein.
And among the Democratic activists who have never forgotten or forgiven that vote is lawyer Ed OReilly who announced recently that he will stage a Democratic primary challenge to Kerry next year when the senator bids for a fifth term.
OReilly, a criminal defense attorney and former Gloucester city councilor, says he supported Kerrys 2004 presidential campaign. But he states on his Web site that he has become disillusioned with Kerry because of his original vote for the Iraq invasion.
OReilly also issued a letter asking Kerry to donate his millions of dollars in campaign cash reserves held by both his Senate campaign committee and his still-open presidential campaign organization to charities that assist military veterans.
OReilly favors an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. He also favors opening a dialogue about Iraq with Syria and Iran, nations with which the United States has long had unfriendly relations but which also are regional powers with a stake in Iraqs future.

Isn’t this the guy who had the GWB drunk driving story in 2000?
Kerry supported Lieberman’s anti-war challenger, whose name escapes me at the moment. This is ironic.
This is more MASS stupidity but let them eat their own.
Anti-war Democrat?
Aren’t they all?
No, that guy is from Maine and was arrested not to long ago for standing along side of the highway dressed as Osama Bin Laden complete with fake shoulder launched missile.
"Hanoi" John is a war monger?
It might be unbelievable, but since no Republican can ever be elected to the Senate there, I may just send the guy a few bucks in the hope that he sends the gigolo back to Europe.
Except for Liebermann. I can’t think of another.
Lieberman is an Independent.
He was elected as an Independent. However, everybody knows that this was a technicality and that he is really a Democrat.

From his website: “He remains committed to caucusing with Senate Democrats, but will be identified as an Independent Democrat (ID-CT).”

This man is too stupid to be running for anything.
Does he really believe that an incumbent such as Kerry will give up a multi-million dollar war chest so that he can fight this guys campaign starting off even?
Rots o Ruck on that one Hoss.
Lieberman is an Independent Democrat a.k.a. (ID-io-CT).
Actually, I’ll probably vote for ANY Democrat other than JFinKerry in the primary....if there really will be one.....just to get a shot of getting him the frig outta the Senate.
Yep...that means I’ll be voting for this Ed guy in the primary.
I don’t foresee conservatves rallying to his defense, as we did Leiberman.
booo...
