Durham One day after he announced he would resign next month, Mike Nifong was served with a judge's order that suspends him from carrying out any duties of the district attorney.
Durham County Sheriff Worth Hill went to Nifong's house with a deputy to serve the order Tuesday morning.
"We took his keys and his badge that gave him access to the building," Hill said. "We'll make arrangements to help him get his personal belongings later."
Acting on a civil complaint filed earlier this year by Durham resident Elizabeth Brewer, Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson filed the order, which removes the embattled prosecutor from office until his resignation becomes effective July 13.
Hudson initially agreed to allow Nifong to work until then, but made the decision Monday evening, concerned that criminal defendants and defense lawyers might challenge the district attorney's authority and therefore, creating potential problems.
"There is probably cause to believe that the district attorney has engaged in willful misconduct in office and conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice, which brings the office into disrepute," Hudson wrote in the order.

At least this guy has the good sense not to whine and act like the vitim.
Sucks to be him.
He can get a gig on cable news as a criminal law expert.
ya think........
Hell, here in MA he can get a great paying job doing morning drive..............we have a convicted felon doing morning drive here in Boston click here for Tom Finneran
This is exactly how it should have been done at 8:00 am Monday morning - no access at all. Hopefully, someone also cut off his ability to access the computer network from outside the office.
Good riddance.
Not to flame you too hard but one of his final atrocities was to express regret...that his name would forever be linked with Evans, Finnerty, and Seligman.
If it wasn’t so impossibly hard to feel sorry for psychopaths, I could almost feel sorry for the guy....
The only reason that he is getting some justice is that normal people have had enough and protested his criminal actions.
Unfortunately, he is not going to jail. He’s still protected because he falsely accused a bunch of “rich white boys”, which in today’s PC world, is not much of a crime any more.
Thanks, jazusamo
Give him a chance. He hasn't been interviewed by Oprah or 60 Minutes yet. He'll get his victim status.
I am betting that 1 year from now, Nifong will be making more than he ever made as District Attorney. There is still alot of love out there for him.
Not to worry, Nifong is just the sort of “talent” who could find a job at one of the following — the base constituency he pursued:

Nifong was only living by the ‘screw the facts’ ethics of PC politics. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Congressman Jefferson Williams have built successful careers doing the same thing. Nifong’s only error was that he thought corruption was an equal opportunity employer.
Yeah, he can go on the Nancy Grace show where they both can still pretend that these boys probably did it.
I am sure Duke University has a spot for him as head cheerleader for the gang of 88.
The Fong is gonna have to move out of state.
Maybe to a cave in back country Alaska where no one can ever find him.
