Castro calls for continued anti-U.S. Cuba

In an essay entitled "You will never have Cuba" published by the Cuban Communist Party's newspaper Granma Monday, Castro stated that U.S. efforts to overthrow him and seize power of the country will never materialize.

The 80-year-old leader reportedly continues to suffer from ill-health and has not been seen in public since last July. His manifesto, however, was signed Sunday afternoon, and he made clear in his statement that Cuba would not only retain its anti-U.S. stance, but it would also continue to follow the communist model of economic growth.

"From one year to the next the standard of living can be improved by raising knowledge, self-esteem and the dignity of people. It will be enough to reduce wastage and the economy will grow," Castro wrote.

But for all his rhetoric about a strong and self-sufficient Cuba, Castro himself has officially ceded power to his brother, Raul, who continues to be the country's acting leader. Meanwhile, Raul's wife, Vilma Espin, died in Havana Monday, the day Castro's manifesto was published, at the age of 77.

Starving people usually clean their plates.

True ... and if you don't have electricity or running water, nobody tells you to turn it off!

"Castro stated that U.S. efforts to overthrow him and seize power of the country will never materialize."

The communist tyrant should look around to see where his former communist dictators are now. Freedom should and could have been restored in 1961-1962.

Communist slavery in Cuba will not continue forever and neither will the Castro's ruling elite.

Once you take hold of the grim reaper's hand, Fidel, your ability to influence what Cuba becomes will evaporate like drops of water hitting asphalt in the hot August sun.

The communist regime you so effectively used like a lead club on the heads of the Cuban people will, in due time, suffer the same fate as that of the Soviet Union.

Say hello to the ash heap of history, Mr. Castro.

I’ll bet Fidelito has plenty to eat - if he’s not embalmed.

I’ve been practicing Cuban cooking for almost a year, hoping to have a big party! (Sigh.)

At least I can take Cuban beans to potluck dinners at church, instead of That Fruit Salad Again.
