HAMAS won its shut-out victory in Gaza with alarming ease. And the reason Hamas won is even more alarming: Fanaticism trumps numbers. You'll hear no end of explanations for the terrorist triumph: Hamas was backed by Iran; Gaza is Hamas' base of support; some Fatah units ran out of ammunition . . . All true. And all secondary factors. Fatah's security forces in Gaza outnumbered the Hamas gunmen.

Won... Gaza is sealed off by Israel, Egypt to the south and must now feed the people and keep the peace. They have only the sea by which to pull that off. If a blockade is enforced, they are screwed. The US and all major governments have stopped aid, so now they...what? Some win.
The next month should be interesting.
A historical truth! "Bolshevik" means "Majority Men" in Russian, and Lenin chose that name to cover up the fact that his Communist movement was so tiny. But what they lacked in numbers, they more than made up for in fanaticism, and during the October Revolution in 1917, the grossly outnumbered Bolsheviks easily seized power in St. Petersburg because they were ready to die for their cause, as opposed to the Tsarists, who had long been in the imperial dole and refused to fight on the Tsar's behalf because his failings during World War I and the decadence and corruption within his regime at the time.
The parallels are very similar here.
One has to wonder what he will say when the first 100 or so people get blown up by a lunatic muslim while having dinner at their favorite resturant?
Damn these people....
Huh.
No, it's the _same_ war that we both are fighting.
The other side _knows_ what it is fighting for, and what the victory will mean..
We are unwilling - yet - to recognize what this is, and pretend it to be something that it is not.
Our side cannot maintain this fiction forever.
Sooner or later, we will be forced - as a nation, as a culture, as a civilization - to confront this reality. I do not wish to be near the events that compel such recognition.
By then, we will either understand the nature of the struggle, and muster the stomach and will to do what is necessary to prevail, or.....?

OK, we are fighting the same war, I’ll concede that.
We are fighting it in an orderly military manner, and for strategic military reasons. They are fighting it for religous reasons, and thus are willing to fight it in any manner they determine will advance their side.
Until we as a country become more involved and supportive in this war we are going to have a very difficult time prevailing.
We WILL prevail, in time.
I just think that we are going to have to suffer serious losses (far in excess of 9-11) before the heads of a lot of our citizens are cleared of the anti-American pro muslim venom they’ve absorbed.
