Theres change at the top in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson earning support from 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani attracts support from 27%.
While Thompsons one-point edge is statistically insignificant, it is the first time all year that anybody but Giuliani has been on top in Rasmussen Reports polling. A week ago, Thompson and Giuliani were tied at 24%

Would you be kind enough to change the DATE at the top of this? I mistakenly posted LAST Tuesday the 12th...it SHOULD be 06/19/07.
More coffee..
Well, perhaps. But the structure of Federal Government is completely different; separate but equal. Success in one venue should not imply expectancy of success in a completely different venue.
IE 6
That means among Republicans, Thompson and Romney do slightly better than with the general public (+1% each), McCain does no better (+0%), and Guiliani loses heavily without independents (-3%).
You’ll see more independents move to Fred as he gets more exposure, I think.
In other words, among Republicans, Fred is really starting to put some daylight between himself and Rudy. This is literally unprecedented in modern rimes for an unannounced candidate. You would have to go back perhaps to Ike after WWII to find some sort of historical parallel, and I am not even susre an unannounced Ike would actually be leading. This is GREAT!
(and all those people who are tired of "holding their noses" while voting)
Oh, but he’s lazy, never accomplished anything, is old, was a lobbyist, filled out a questionnaire once, and has a lousy website.
Time for us to give up on this Fred Thompson fantasy and get in line behind our savior, Mitt Romney!
They’re breaking out the razor blades over at WideAwakes.
Sorry, who cares about NATIONAL polls.
What matters are who is ahead in IOWA, NH and SC.
It may not matter after that.
Very Big Grin!
Thompson is leading in SC.
Do you know which of the Republican primary states allow independents to vote? Fred has a five point lead already among only Republicans.
We may end up seeing what happened in 2000, Democrats voting in the Republican Primary to influence the nomination.

I found this link to those primaries which are open or closed or other, for everyone’s perusal.
Handily, at that.
And he's 2nd in Iowa, and gaining on Romney, who's only in the lead because he's spending money like a drunken sailor.
Why I feel Fred Thompson can revive that old-time religion of genuine Reagan like conservatism. Its his ability to communicate, honestly and openly and with such flair.
A major irritation of the Republican base has been Bushs trouble articulating. Given a prepared speech he can deliver it with the best of them, but slap a microphone in front of him like at a press conference and we Republicans cringe. His sloppy speaking style only serves to bolster the perception of his incompetence. That is why the most important but least discussed asset we are looking for in a candidate is the ability to communicate, and Fred Thompson seems to be what we the Republicans are yearning for.
We need to not just get a victory in 2008, but we need to look beyond Bush and focus on the long term vision of the Conservative movement. Each of the candidates running have good attributes, and maybe just maybe a few of them have what it takes to beat Hillary, but where will they take the party?
Is this just about beating Hillary? Yea, we get some sweet revenge, but four years of more of the same politics as usual in D.C. . Or is this about a rediscovery of our values and our common sense as a Nation, and the resurgence of national pride? We need the President to be the Nations President once again.
Its been written not long after the mess in Florida with the hanging chads, that to half the Nation, President Bush was their President, but to the other half he was not President at all. We can as Americans no longer afford to have that sort of a divide between our people.
Ronald Reagan said he left the entertainment world for politics because he wanted to protect something precious. Well the office of President is something precious and the respect for it should be preserved. The President once again needs to be Our President, weather you voted for him or not. Out of all the potential presidential candidates, Fred Thompson is the one that can unite us and move us forward to better things.
In President Reagans Farewell Address he said, I wasn’t a great communicator, but I communicated great things. Fred Thompson is a communicator of great things and I am honored to be behind him.
What matters is who is leading ahead in Iowa and NH six months from now. Hint: If Mitt’s poll numbers don’t start to improve a lot and soon, it will not be him. People are not going to walk through the snows of Iowa and NH to vote for someone who is in 4th place, in single digits and falling. THat ain’t goping to happen.
Today’s prediction:
Fred wins SC, NC, FL and IA.
Romney wins NH.
Rudy wins WA.
