Not really. Charles says that if the government can demonstrate that it can enforce our borders and that this will be the last amnesty, then he has no problem granting [legalization] amnesty to the 12 to 20 million already here. He presents this as the prevailing view of the opponents of the bill.
Krauthammer failed to note that chain migration will drive these numbers much higher. And he makes no mention of what legalization will do to our social welfare [entitlement] systems, wage depression, or national identity. There is also the matter of law and rewarding people who break it. And the very real possibility that we could be legalizing terrorists who have secreted themselves into this country. Krauthammer is part of the Kristol crowd on immigration.
That is a huge problem with this bill. They keep saying it ends chain migration and converts to merit and nuclear family only. They don't tell you that the bill puts this switch 8 years out...at which time it would never happen.
