TONY Blair wants to hand the European Union radical new powers in his last act as Prime Minister, it emerged today.
The Prime Minister has welcomed controversial plans to bring back the troubled EU constitution by the back door - totally bypassing the need for public referendums on sweeping new powers for Brussels. ... scheme and our hard-won veto on European directives would be torn up. Britain could also lose the right to impose quotas on immigration.
Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague said: "If Tony Blair thinks he can hoodwink the British people by smuggling in the rejected EU consitution under another name, he had better think again.
"He underestimates the British people. They will see right through any shabby stitch-up.
"If the Labour Government sign up to a new treaty that takes powers from Britain and hands them over to the EU, the British people must have the final say in a referendum."

Maybe Bush is doing what he’s doing to create a North American superstate to counterbalance a European superstate.
If so, someone needs to remind him, two wrongs don’t make a right.
In Tony Blair's case, he wants to be President of the EU (a President with strong powers who will remain in that office for quite a while). He had a meeting with Sarkozy recently (Sarkozy is a strong supporter of a revamped EU Constitution, that would be approved without referenda). It was reported that Sarkozy offered to back Blair for the Presidency. Perhaps this was part of a deal?
In President Bush's case - there are very powerful interest groups who are demanding an amnesty bill.
I was going to make a joke about it, but you had to do it for real.
Powerful interest groups who say they cant get Americans to work,when what tthey mean is Americans wont work as cheap as Mexicans.
We had plenty of Roofers,and siding guys and road workers when they paid decent wages. The Mexicans arent doing job Americans wont do,they are doing them for wages Americans wont work for.

Because they weren’t elected by you or I. They were chosen by the elites and they presented us we two choices. No matter who we elect it’s just one of the boys from the “clucb”. As Marcuse observed, democracy is a stage managed affair by the elites to make us believe we have a say. But when it really matters to them, what we think matters not a twit. Our democracies long ago ceased to be functioning.

He should also be reminded that uniting the US, Canada and Mexico will not make North America stronger, it will just make the US weaker.
This “superstate” idiocy is (I believe) not what the founders of the EEC envisioned. Adenauer, DeGasperi and Schuman were good, conservative men who believed in economic cooperation and DEcentralization of power. It makes President Eamon de Valera of Ireland look all the more wise for urging his country not to join even the innocent EEC, because he could see a loss of sovereignty for Ireland at the end of that road once liberals took it over.
