Prosecutor Mike Nifong has been disbarred by a state disciplinary committee for the horrendous way he conducted the prosecution on rape charges of three innocent Duke lacrosse players.

Nifong has given up his right to appeal, meaning this verdict is final. However, Nifong could still face criminal charges.

Next would come the civil suits by these 3 young guys against Nifong, the Univ. and for good measure throw in the “gang of 88” professors.

Agree. I hope they don't stop now - bring them all down for total justice. And go after the little vamp for 'hate crimes'. Time to put the shoe on the other foot.

the Duke Lacrosse team is/was/always will be guilty of something far more serious than rape: having the white skin privilege.

Strictly speaking, the Lacrosse team is guilty of something more serious, in the professoriat's eyes: being successfully male.

About time a "monster in the System" got what was coming to him. Let it be a warning for more judgments to come. How many innocent lives did this man ruin? He is reaping what he has sown. God is just.

Nifong could still face criminal charges.

Not going to happen. But hopefully lawyers fees in the inevitable civil suits will consume his entire pension income, plus some.

Nifong Disbarred!!!

It’s like the answer to the old joke: What do you call 500 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

A good start.

“Nifong could still face criminal charges.”

“Not going to happen”

I don’t know, I smell a dog pile on Nifong and all of the enablers and accomplices blame him for everything. Ironic that Nifong himself could become Wolfe’s great white defendant.

Duke sucks less today.

It may suck a little less, but it's apparently still fair game for even a black crackhead stripper to make completely baseless (while carrying very serious legal penalties) against white males in Durham. The lying accuser faces no criminal prosecution for lying about the whole thing.

Over a million dollars in defense money plus the prosecution funds have been spent because of her differing claims, and yet the false accuser is let off without the merest legal handslap. What kind of justice of this?

A beautiful analogy, life imitates fiction.

He’s already pulled the equity out of his house to pay for his defense. There’s no money.

I hope he lives a long and miserable life of poverty, eating cat food in some dump of a tenderloin hotel...

A lot of observers feel what this was always all about was his pension - getting re-elected so he would qualify for a big one. Apparently, it'll be quite large due to his length of 'service'. I really, really, hope that unlike O.J. the young men and their parents keep after him and it until the day he dies. They have the resources to do it, and I think will.

It’s time Fitzgerald’s boat be cast off into a sea of litigation hell. For his crew we should add the Wilson’s and Senator Chuck Schumer. Ding! Ding! All aboard!

...what is sad is wondering how many Nifongs are there out there, railroading people to pad their polical resume.

And I'd venture a guess that the overwhelming majority of these out-of-control "Nifongs" are Democrats and that the defendants they "railroad" are frequently white middle class and/or professional males. Just cases of acting out their hatred for a typically conservative demographic stereotype.

The Duke lacrosse players pulled a rare upset in this case. Most of the victims of these rash prosecutorial tactics wind up convicted with harsh sentences. Just ask "Scooter" Libby.

Oh, they’ll get away with it. “Tenure” covers a multitude of sins. I was moved by Seligmann’s account of how acquaintances with whom he was on good terms suddenly snubbed him, hung “wanted” posters, etc.
Tenure might enable them to keep their jobs sinecures - but it would be interesting to see what ice that would cut in civil court if the slandered three students were to sue. After all, the treatment the 88 accorded the 3 looks to this layman to be worse than what you could get away with in criticizing a politician without being sued. "Actual malice" anyone? Disregard for the truth? I wouldn't be so sure - and if the 3 were to sue Duke itself for the abuse of its 88 employees, Duke might find that it could not afford to respect tenure, and still own its own campus!

“As well as anyone else in the DA’s office who knowingly assisted in the conspiracy to withhold evidence.” I was wondering about that. Did this guy really go on a mad rampage by himself? Was there no one to check him early on?

“There have been people who`ve said that I should have given this case up a long time ago.

“Some people have accused me of orchestrating this whole thing as an election stunt.

“This is not about an election, this is about doing justice. Part of the job of being the district attorney is not just convicting the guilty, part of the job is freeing the innocent.”
