MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Robert Zoellick, almost certain to be the next head of the World Bank, on Saturday took aim at Venezuela's leftist president, Hugo Chavez, warning that his oil-fueled socialist revolution was headed for trouble.

"It's a country where economic problems are mounting, and as we're seeing also on the political and press side it's not moving in a healthy direction," Zoellick told reporters during a visit to Mexico.

When Paul Wolfowitz was world bank chief, all he did was talk about bono, geldof, global warming, and the need for americans not to build a border fence on the border with mexico.

Now we have Zoellick and he's not even taken office yet and the first thing out of his mouth is the irresponsibility and disgustingness of Hugo Chavez.

Zoellick gets it in a way Wolfowitz never did. Can you imagine wolfie denouncing Hugo? He was too busy posing for pictures with Geldof and berating the west for not giving more money to africa.

Zoellick is a bigtime improvement. I'm championing the guy, he gets it.

Hugo’s socialism is failing. Who would have thunk. After the fall of the Berlin Wall these lefties should buy a clue.

Good to see someone at the WB calling a spade a spade. But Hugo will only use this criticism to build “cred” with his base. Cindy Sheehan and that other actor dude, where are you now?

“Heading for trouble?”

Sorry to break the news, but it’s there.

My own guess is loony Hugo is pumping his oil in an unproductive way. Pumping the oil in ways that maximize present yield but ruin the oil field so that only 60% is extracted instead of the maximum 90+%. This happens when socialists run an industry

Yep.

She said she was coming to take the oil companies’ profits away and would redistribute them to her political cronies, all for the good of ‘the people,’ don’t you know.

Soon it will be another shining example of the superiority of socialism. Just like Koobah. I mean they now have a thriving low power rice cooker industry, and it only took them 40 years and little to no electricity to develop!

This is the future of the U.S.A if that Amnesty Senate bill passes. Venezuelans voted for this socialism( their new nightmare). And who can guarantee that 200 million undeducated Mexicans and other 3rd worlders will not do the same here in the U.S..? Somebody should tell these Senators that socialism doesn’t work.

I love the way Bush has refused to respond to Chavez's personal attacks.

Seeing Chevez destroy his own country will be all the poetic justice we could ever pray for. It's a beautiful thing.

Intelligence reports suggest that Bush’s ignoring of the thug drives him absolutely insane. I like it when Bush gets the better of him.

It sounds good, and I hope you're correct.

Maybe there's good reason for him to be there, but I note he appears to be speaking from Mexico, not the United States.

Sadly Bush saves his attacks, not for Chavez or the Dems that despise him, but for his supporters who put him in office.

That’s even better. He’s telling the mexicans not to get any ideas. Also, Mexicans hate hugo bigtime, he called them a lapdog of the empire. The mexico positioning of zoellick’s statements works out very well indeed.

Actually Bush's attacks are saved for those OPPOSING him, NOT supporting him.
