Different conservative blogs have different pet issues -- government transparency, federal judges, Fred Thompson, to name a few.
But no issue in recent memory has united conservative bloggers like the debate over immigration. Their frustration has culminated in a full-scale revolt against the Bush administration and a Senate bill that activists say does little to solve the country's border security problems.
President Bush's pledge to support $4.4 billion in additional border security funds has breathed new life into the bill, but the drumbeat against the legislation shows no signs of quieting. (Watch how senators revived the immigration bill )
It's increasingly clear from Web postings and interviews with top conservative bloggers that the immigration bill has done serious damage to the president's credibility among the conservative netroots, the grassroots bloggers on the Web.
Erick Erickson, managing editor of the popular conservative blog RedState.com, says he receives between 800 and 900 e-mails a day from readers, most of whom are "enraged" by the White House's immigration efforts.
"Of all the issues the president has picked to make his hill to die on, he has picked the one that has divided his base," said Erickson, who lives in Macon, Georgia. "I am shocked by the anger and outrage out there ... You've got war against the president within the Republican party."
When details of an immigration compromise were announced this spring, conservative bloggers were immediately incensed. Michelle Malkin labeled it "a White House betrayal."
Another popular blogger, Hugh Hewitt, called the bill a "fiasco" and wrote: "this push for this bill is a disaster, Mr. President."
Bloggers: Secure the border first Conservative bloggers make various arguments against the bill. Some say the bill grants amnesty to illegal immigrants who have already broken the law.

What do you mean lower wage? As soon as this is signed into law, they will be American citizens and there will be minimum wage for all of them.
Then, the border will allow another batch who are not yet processed, so low salaries but requiring the churches to feed their families, then, lo, they too will be getting minimum wage.
Of course I have not waded through the 600 pages yet, so possibly that is not how it will work.
Quickly!? Where the hell have you been for the last three effing years? What's amazing here is how faithful unto death you are to a party that no longer listens to the people who worked to put them there. Bush has failed on more than one issue. You need to pull your head out.
Drink your Kool-aid in silence. I hope you don't mind sharing it with unwanted guests.
Erickson! If you're reading FR then listen up!
The 'BASE' is NOT DIVIDED!
The President has ABANDONED HIS BASE!
He is now known as President RENEGADE!
Don't get distracted. Keep the pressure on Congress.
Bush isn't nearly as important as he'd like to think he is on this issue.
Call your Congressmen and Senators every day next week! Tell them you don't want this "Shamnesty" in any shape or form.
“Just as I expected - we are infiltrated.”
We are! By Bushbots.
Who do you support - Hillary or Obama?
Are you of the ultra left wacko crowd that hates America, is against the war, wants to cut and run and turn the whole area over to the Iranians? Or are you in the environmentalist branch trying to claim we have the power to effect the temperature of earth?
Which is it?
What I don’t understand is why Bush is making such an all out effort for this bill. Where was this enthusiasm for conservative issues like privatizing SS?
Are you too from DU trying to lure our angry ranters to your team?
Kennedy is your idol isn’t he?
And what are you?
I am angry with Bush also but that never means I talk impeach, that never means I become a democrat.
Quickly!? Where the hell have you been for the last three effing years?
Where the HELL have YOU been ?
Do you EVEN READ the posts you're responding to?
I'm talking about people claiming they have been faithful Bush supporters ALL THESE YEARS, and NOW are FINALLY disgusted and turning on him over this issue.
If this doesn't decribe YOU, then I guess my comments weren't direct at you. (duh)
No,actually I support Osama Bin Laden. Why screw around with small fry like Hillary or Obama when you can root for a guy who gets things done like Osama !!!
At one time this was considered a right and proper method for dealing with scoundrels.
Wicked and incendiary? Hmm, that's pretty rich. Perhaps we should take a poll of the hundreds of thousands of *American citizens* that have been victims of the people that Mr. Bush is so intent on flooding this country with. I suspect my attitude would poll a lot higher than yours.
Perhaps we should poll the people in LA that used to use the emergency rooms that are now closed thanks to these people that Mr. Bush is so enamored with.
To be fair, maybe we should also poll the 36,000 vicious gang members that Mr. Bush wants to have stay here, if they apologize and promise not to do it again? - I think you'd win that one.
Very good LP by the way. Love the title, too
The hangman's NOOSE was in your "tar and feather" picture.
Or don't you look at what you post?
I usually listen to him as he many times sees things more realistically than I might.
Why shouldn't I be "Faithful" to Bush and the party when I AGREE with them on this issue?
Do you EVEN read posts before responding to them?
Of course you would which is why you are a democrat - you love all dictators fully expecting that you - oh great one - would not be under his knife as all the masses will be.
I have never understood why democrats love dictators. Why they would willingly go ga-ga over them. Are they that stupid? Or, do they just love the cruelty the dictators uses? Here they are in the most beautiful, wonderful country on earth and they hate it and praise the two-bit creep killing his way to the top. Shows how really smart they are I guess. Choosing between liberty and life supporting a dictator and they, of course, hate the country of liberty and freedom and bow to the dictator.
I’m stealing that image...
