Conservative bloggers in full revolt over immigration
cnn ^ | 6-15-07

Different conservative blogs have different pet issues -- government transparency, federal judges, Fred Thompson, to name a few.

But no issue in recent memory has united conservative bloggers like the debate over immigration. Their frustration has culminated in a full-scale revolt against the Bush administration and a Senate bill that activists say does little to solve the country's border security problems.

President Bush's pledge to support $4.4 billion in additional border security funds has breathed new life into the bill, but the drumbeat against the legislation shows no signs of quieting. (Watch how senators revived the immigration bill )

It's increasingly clear from Web postings and interviews with top conservative bloggers that the immigration bill has done serious damage to the president's credibility among the conservative netroots, the grassroots bloggers on the Web.

Erick Erickson, managing editor of the popular conservative blog RedState.com, says he receives between 800 and 900 e-mails a day from readers, most of whom are "enraged" by the White House's immigration efforts.

"Of all the issues the president has picked to make his hill to die on, he has picked the one that has divided his base," said Erickson, who lives in Macon, Georgia. "I am shocked by the anger and outrage out there ... You've got war against the president within the Republican party."

When details of an immigration compromise were announced this spring, conservative bloggers were immediately incensed. Michelle Malkin labeled it "a White House betrayal."

Another popular blogger, Hugh Hewitt, called the bill a "fiasco" and wrote: "this push for this bill is a disaster, Mr. President."

Bloggers: Secure the border first Conservative bloggers make various arguments against the bill. Some say the bill grants amnesty to illegal immigrants who have already broken the law.

Wicked and incendiary? Hmm, that's pretty rich. Perhaps we should take a poll of the hundreds of thousands of *American citizens* that have been victims of the people that Mr. Bush is so intent on flooding this country with. I suspect my attitude would poll a lot higher than yours.

Really? You think most Americans would agree with your post suggesting we should tar, feather and hang President Bush?

Don't be stupid.

That is reprehensible.

Oh, no you don't. You aren't going to dismiss me that easily, Kool-aid drinker. I worked my butt off for Bush in 2004. He and other Republican leaders sold us down the river 2005 even got rolling. They capitulated to the Dems on every single major issue. Bush promised conservative justices and the first one he put on the block was Harriet Miers. Then he attacked us for daring to protest his stupid choice, calling us "sexist." He coddles the people we are supposed to be at war with. He throws the borders wide open for people who are not supposed to be here in the first place, and then gives them preferential treatment over American citizens.

Defend him if you want. Given your eagerness to dismiss the majority of Americans who have voiced their dismay over that idiot's willingness to sell his countrymen for thirty pieces of silver, you are just another RAT going down with the ship.

Enjoy the swim, Waterboy.

Sometimes I like to use them to point up to any reading what their beliefs really are. They come here to use our site against us, so I use them to further reveal the things they support. Who knows - sometimes we might need to fight the democrats instead of Bush. I know it is a little too much to accept but they are out there working away like little ants trying to divide us, destroy us, and win.

Don’t forget the senators that blatantly go against the base. They’ll run again and we can take our revenge out on them.

As freepers (and other conservatives) we never forgot 9/11 when everyone else did. We’ll never forget this either.

"It astounds me how quickly and completely single issue fanatics will turn on their own."

Those same "single issue fanatics" who form a majority have rejected this single issue, repeatedly. Yet President Bush is intent to represent Mexico rather than Americans for which he owes credit for his job and, cursed be everyone else, he's going to force amnesty through or split the GOP wide open.

This is an all or nothing shot for Bush, and I'm hedging my chips upon his total forfeiture of remaining political capital.

Why he chooses falling upon his sword with this particular issue at this particular time is a mysterious Bush Blunder Numero Uno. His choice, his loss will do nothing but seriously harm the war effort.

And maybe he will outwit you as he has your new found Dem buddies all these years.

It wasn't Bush who confounded them. It was us. We are the ones who did his dirty work day in and day out. We are the ones who exposed and fought the MSM for him day in and day out. We are the ones who exposed and fought the Left. We gave him the power and the cover. Like you, he's forgotten where that power came from. He's about the learn a hard lesson and unfortunately, he's going to take a good chunk of the party with hi,

You're getting a little hung up on the hanging in the picture (oh, good pun, don't you think?).

Since I said tar, feather & run out on a rail, I think we'd have to skip the hanging part. He wouldn't be able to run too well.

Probably not enough trees in DC for the number of scoundrels we have there anyway. But I bet with an enthusiastic effort on the part of myself and my wicked counterparts around the country, we could scrounge sufficient quantities of tar and feathers. What's a few bald birds in the pursuit of rightous justice?

Actually, I do think a surprising percentage of those victims of illegals to whom I referred would find my attitude more appealing than yours.

Right. If only you could "slice and dice" your opponents half as well as you can screw up the grammar and spelling in your posts......

And as far as "always traded punches"...what are you talking about?

I can't even recall seeing your name before. That's how unmemorable you are.

No, on one hand we would have socialism with the democrats and I’m not ready to give up my freedom just yet. On the other hand, we have opportunities to elect Fred or some other that supports right to bear arms, supports the fight against terrorists, supports conservative views.

We conservatives are really not too smart as we can never support a president unless he is perfect in our view daily. If not perfect, we will not support the man and we then lose any chance to still move a little bit of conservatism forward.

Whereas the democrats do not have the option of dissent - they must tow the party line - so, they never withdraw support from their leader as it is not allowed. And, they then keep on plugging and winning in any direction they can.

Sadly, their method works better for getting their agenda pushed through. We have seen liberals slowly put into place in our schools and years later - the little munchkins turn out with no knowledge of history, no respect for America, prime targets for the left.

Wish the conservatives would one day learn the value of moving in any direction we can, taking steps when we want leaps but willing to take the steps.
