U.S. Border Patrol agents arrest Mexican fugitive

EL PASO, Texas -- A man accused of leading a powerful and brutal Mexican kidnapping ring was handed to Mexican authorities Friday, two years after U.S. officials deported him without realizing he was wanted.

Abel Diaz Lucas, also known as Jorge Guevara-Perez and one of Mexico's most-wanted men, was arrested in El Paso on Thursday after officers received a tip, said Patrick Berry, a Border Patrol spokesman.

Diaz, 49, has numerous nicknames, including "The Pig," and Mexican authorities said his gang was notorious for cutting off the fingers and ears of kidnapping victims and sending them to their families with ransom demands.

Berry said Diaz was arrested after agents spotted him walking in an El Paso neighborhood where he was thought to be living.

It wasn't clear when Diaz returned to the U.S. after his 2005 deportation, but he did enter the country illegally, said Berry, adding that U.S. officials were aware of his status this time because of improved cooperation with Mexican authorities.

Diaz was never charged with a crime in the U.S., Berry said.

With his hands cuffed in front of him, Diaz was flanked by U.S. agents and Mexican federal officials as they walked across the international bridge near downtown El Paso.

Diaz wore jeans, black boots, a tan shirt and a baseball-style cap pulled down over his eyes as he was taken into custody in Ciudad Juarez amid tight security.

His handcuffs were removed by U.S. agents, then Mexican authorities cuffed him, slipped a bulletproof vest on him and put him in an SUV with tinted windows.

NOTE TO ALL:

e-mail pro-amnesty Senators and ask if they, as an agents / spokesmen for Mexico, have registered with the federal government IAW the Foreign Agents Registration Act ? It may help get their attention.

Swell. Their corrupt government will turn him loose and order him to go back to the US again. They don't want him. Why should they. They'll let us pay to take care of him. He should prefer prison in the US, because Mexican prisons are pretty brutal. We'll take better care of him than Mexico will.

How true, some poor sectary is working over time to get this embarrassment swept under the rug.

Uh oh! I know some border agents who will be out of a job soon!

And maybe in jail!

All of this trying to enforce the law is really getting out of hand. These guys must have missed all of the *nudge nudge* *wink winks* during their training.

Anyway, sarcasm aside, this is great news. It is refreshing to hear about the Border Patrol doing these kinds of things, even if it seems ultimately futile anymore. :/

Don’t they realize that if they arrest this criminal they risk their own arrest and sentencing to prison by the current administration for some trumped up charge simply for being a border patrol agent.

Ramos, Compean, Aleman.

Time for a change

Presidente Jorge needs to be replaced
