Washington, D.C. The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.
Anti-immmigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.

Excellent news!

Ant-immigration champion?
Tancredo is not anti-immigration, he’s anti-illegal-immigration.
Next sponsor a law taking any military spending away from these so called sanctuary cities and those that hate the military such as San Fransicko.
“You got that right. I’d say it’s a Trick for the Times. Of course, it’ll die in the Senate; either that, or the Senate will mark it up to the point where they attach the whole shamnesty bill to it as an amendment.”
Actually, the Coleman (R-MN) Amendment did the similar thing as tancredo’s proposal, and it was shot down:

To amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to facilitate information sharing between federal and local law enforcement officials related to an individual’s immigration status.

Allow illegals to be identified locally
FAIL (48/49/0)
It failed by one vote!
This is indeed encouraging, as it is a signal that the House wont be a walkover for the amnesty folks. The urban liberal democrats are not interested in open borders, even if the Democrat party elites are corrupt and cynical enough to troll for new voters.
“The sad thing is that if we successfully Kill Bill, they get to retain the status quo ante which is unacceptable.”
I disagree with this claim... while the status quo is bad in many ways, what we are starting to see - and what frightens the open borders advocates - is a clear line of site to an ‘enforcement first’ approach to solve illegal immigration.
WE *HAVE* the border fence in law, and it is partly funded. We have the mantra “border security” and “enforce the law” so ingrained on the politicians, they have to pretend these bills do something about it ... yeah, it makes it worse but the point is that the people are on to the ‘bait and switch’ and we may yet get them to switch back.
All it really takes is (1) No amnesty now and none in 2009
and (2) a seriously competent “secure the borders” President, and (3) a non-amnesty immigration reform bill that ends chain migration and has enough employment visas will do the trick, and within a few years the problem will solve itself.
LOL
If a tragedy occurs it is the fault of the illegal for being there in the first place. I have sympathy for them but let them stay in their own country unless they can come here through legal channels.
Good to see you. How are you?
Wow.
That's exactly what it will take to wake up the local politicians to this invasion. I live within the bounds of the invaded city of Los Angeles, a sanctuary city with a pro-MECHA Mayor, and a Governor (Arnold) who is mute on this issue, and we are being overrun by Mexican illegals. They have absolutely no respect for America, are are sucking this state dry.
Everyone,
Call your Represenative(s) and if they’ve supported this measure, thank them. If they didn’t, express your regrets they chose not to join in the task of securing America.
That would be what I would call a Shot Across the Legislative Bow!

You have to love the accidental Freudian slip by the columnist. The newspaper editor didn't catch it, so let me help him/her
Tancredo’s-got-my-vote bump.
I like how this Chris Barge chap describe Rep Tancredo as “anti-immigration.” That’s a laugh!
May I suggest you use that last sentence as your tag line.
(”Tom Tancredo may be.....”)
