Washington, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.

Anti-immmigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.

And I have no doubt that the Senate will surely kill the bill...

This news is amazing. The Representatives are scurrying for cover as the anti-Amnesty forces produce a withering field of fire.

Tancredo found the Achille’s heel and I hope he keeps kicking at it. Force the same people who create the federal laws to vote on allowing communities to refuse to abide by those laws.

Next he should go after the states. The governors of those states are obligated to see to it that cities in their states aren’t disregarding federal law. The states need to be held accountable.

Sean Hannity once said this issue alone could make Tancredo the POTUS.

Uh, no. I missed it. Besides, Jorge, you never were good at civics - CONGRESS makes the laws, not the President.

But you DO get to use your veto pen - it probably has a lot of ink in it since you love anything Congress throws your way so much!!!

Adios Jorge!!!

I like that nachos idea passed on to McCain. I have a recipe for nachos that will give everybody burning hot explosive diarhhea the next morning and gas for 2 days. McCain needs a bowl of my nachos.

Outstanding point, outstanding. I need to digest that. Thank you. Extremely prescient.

Ah, so our determined stance is finally extracting something from the liberals and elites. barely scratching it. No more multiculturalism in government. one language, one culture. Here’s one. build the fence. get started. how about give border agents a higher threshold for misdeeds to be declared by the attorney industry. ditto land holders. ditto the coast guard. Set up ships, rust buckets to haul em back to where they came. declare a state of emergency in the border states and at the state department where the student visas get handed out. the otherwise lawabiding felons already here can be assimilated but only after these measures are in place for to stop the tidal wave. no amnesty before security.

” The Senate was designed to represent the interests of the State governments vis-a-vis the federal government. “

You have a point about the Senate being more delibrative than the House only in its own collective mind. However, the 17th amendment was passed in an effort to make the Senate more responsive to the people. The House has always been more responsive to the people.

I agree with you that “more deliberative” is an affectation the Senate has assumed.

We finally got broadband at work, so I can listen to them online without getting in trouble for using up bandwidth.

I'll turn them on now.

It is actually an appropriate place for the amendment since the Homeland Security Funding legislation is an appropriations bill. If the Tancredo amendment in the Senate version of that bill passed it would carry the day. That is why Tancredo chose not to attach it to the House version of the Immigration Reform Act of 2007.

BTW, sanctuary actually does have a legal defintion, i. e., Immunity to arrest afforded by a sanctuary

Tancredo to John and Ken: “If the amnesty bill comes over from the Senate, I’m telling you right now they’re going to have one helluva time passing it in the House.”
