Lott sticks his foot in it again, talk radio, immigration

a quote from Senator Lott:

"I'm sure senators on both sides of the aisle are being pounded by these talk-radio people who don't even know what's in the bill," Lott said. He added that the "leadership will have to be prepared to do what needs to be done."

Lott isn't alone in his arrogance, they're all "in your face" with their smug arrogance.

The following is from another thread, but I think Churchill's quote accurately describes the attitude of Lott, et al..

Criticizing the British politicians in the years before WWII, Churchill wrote: "The left and the right joined forces with fatuity at a terrible price to be paid later."

The American Heritage dictionary (New College Edition) defines "fatuity" as "stupidity conveyed with a air of pride or self-satisfaction."

Yeah, they do. The GOP elite knows what's best and the base should just go home and shut up. Fine, Trent - we'll do just that as we watch the GOP collapse on Election Night next year. We'll see just how much you appreciate it when the Democrats have a filibuster proof majority. The one you wanted to get but you screwed up because you couldn't deliver on the conservative agenda. Which you don't deserve because you are determined to deliver the country to the Democrats forever. With friends like you, conservatives don't need enemies.

That man is a fool if he thinks we don’t know what’s in the bill. His stupidity is unreal!

OK, Mississippi. It’s on you. Send this fool home in his next primary.

Someone pretty impressive would have to step forward to unseat him.

Mississippi U.S. Senators and Representatives either become senile or die in office.

Can anyone think of someone who could beat him? Gov. Haley Barbour maybe?

It takes a lot of gall for Senator Lott to accuse others of "not knowing" what's in the immigration bill when:

a) he, like all Senators, has spent his entire career having staff members write such legislation;

b) they most frequently do so using text and word substitutions whose meaning can only be discerned by careful study of the original laws they are designed to amend, and

c) independent legal writers and researchers who have studied the bill are nearly unanimous in their opinion that it amounts to amnesty.

You don't have to be a pompous, big-haired, glad-handing, two-faced blowhard to be a Senator, but it helps.

Oh boy.
Will this dipstick ever go away?
How freaking clueless these people are.
Then again,it’s all lip service to the high & mighty who think they know what’s best for all of us. GARBAGE.
It makes me absolutely ILL to see how these RINOs are so willing to fall into lockstep with those who will do anything to run this country into the ground.

The righteous anger expressed on this board is sadly naive, as your comment indicates. Lott, et al could care less whether the GOP becomes a permanent minority; they were never interested in enacting a conservative agenda.

They, like everyone else who has an IQ over 100, knows damn well what will happen if amnesty passes. There will be a mad scramble to feather one's own nest, ensure adequate asset protection, and rape the system till it hurts as the smartest prepare their exit strategies.

The senate retirement benefits equal more than most Americans earn working their entire lives. They could care less about you or me. Also there are other 'hidden perks' like this one for example. Sonny Callahan spent $2 million of your tax dollars to dredge Dog River in front of his house before he retired. See here.

"It turns out that there are many interesting aspects to this project. First of all, how is it that the project was given life at all? The Army Corps of Engineers does work that is concerned mostly with flood control and navigation projects. A prerequisite of any project is that it has economic returns (Reilly, 2001). The Dog River Pilot project has no economic returns. How did it get started? The story is as follows:"

Representative Sonny Callahan has a house on the river. For years he listened to complaints from neighbors about the depth of the river (Kamen, 2001). People were having trouble getting their big recreational boats into the water. An initial study in 1997 by the Army Corps of Engineers, however, found no reason to undertake a dredging project. After all, there is no real commercial traffic on Dog River. After more complaints, however, many people feel like Callahan gave in to the pressure. A loophole was found in the Corps’ statutes. This loophole is the environment. If the plan to dredge the river could be re-packaged as an environmental restoration project, then economic returns could be thrown out the window (Reilly, 2001)."

"The package was completed, and because of Callahan’s position of power, he was able to clear the next hurdle: the hurdle being that a local sponsor was required to put up 35 percent of the cost required of all environmental restoration initiatives. He merely erased this clause, and added the extra money with the Supplemental Appropriations Act, bringing the total to $1,900,000 (Mobile Register, 2001).

“..senators on both sides of the aisle are being pounded by these talk-radio people..”

Talk about out-of-touch!!
Not only with reality, but with the American people as well!
It’s the responsiblity of the “talk-radio people” to enlighten and inform their listeners, and thanks to them,we have benn informed and enlightened. If it were left up to the “major news outlets,”we’d be giddily oblivious to all things important in our country and only be up-to-date on Paris Hilton and Brangelina, neither of which I give a grand crap about!!!! GRRRR!
Note to Lott and your cronies....STFU!!!!!!!!
OK....I’m much better now. :)

I believe Lott also said that talk radio is running the country and something needs to be done about it. Didn’t take him long to forget that talk radio saved his ass and career very recently.

But of course he thinks the little people outside of DC are know-nothings. Try to pass this pig-in-a-poke again Senators and we will stomp all over you turncoats wrapped in psuedo-Republican tinfoil.

IMHO, in the past the people were not heard or were lazy in their reactions to legislation.

Now with the internet we are tuned in right away what the legislation is in time to put the squeeze on our legislators. I think they realy hate that part!!!

Hopefully, this information was given to the voters in this schmuck’s state so he is sent home in “disgrace”. These traitors’ arrogance knows no bounds until we, the People, remove them (at the ballot box) from their positions of trust which they’ve violated over and over. Callahan should be presented with the $2 million bill, to be paid out of his own pocket” for squandering the peoples’ tax dollars for his own personal use.
