EXCLUSIVE: Fred Thompson Pro-Life Video Address
CBN News ^ | June 14, 2007 | David Brody

Posted on 06/14/2007 6:38:22 PM PDT by Politicalmom

CBNNews.com - It’s Christmas in June here at The Brody File. Look what we found under the tree. It’s a present from “supporters of Fred Thompson” given exclusively to The Brody File. It is a pre-recorded Fred Thompson video addressing the National Right to Life conference tonight in Kansas City.

Because of his schedule, he couldn’t be there in person so instead he recorded a two and a half minute video for the pro-life crowd. We have it. It starts out with Thompson and his wife Jeri, and then we get a rare look at his children for the first time.

You can watch the EXCLUSIVE video here:

http://www.cbn.com/vod/index.aspx?s=/vod/FREDthompson&title=Fred%20Thompson%20Speech

and read the transcript below:

“When I was in the Senate a lot of people would come to see me and it usually would have to do with business matters or financial matters or something pertaining to their financial welfare. When you came to see me, I always knew it was about something much more important than that, the most important thing of all in this World and that is life and I must say that those issues are even more profound to me as the years go by. Jeri and I have truly been blessed. Let’s talk about some of those issues for a moment. In 1994, I made my first run for the U.S. Senate. I was proud to receive the National Right to Life endorsement. I’ve been with you ever since. You’ve been with me ever since. On abortion related votes I’ve been 100 percent. We’ve had a lot of different kind of issues come up in the Senate from federal funding to stem cell research, Roe versus Wade and the partial birth abortion debate or as former Senator Pat Moynihan of New York used to say it’s more like infanticide than partial birth abortion. You know one of the proudest moments I’ve had as a private citizen was when the President asked me to help Judge John Roberts through the senate confirmation process to become a member of the Supreme Court. Well, now he is Chief Justice John Roberts, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but I think he’s going to go down as the best Chief Justice that this country has ever had.

On stem cell research, I’m for adult stem cell research not stem cell research where embryos of unborn children are destroyed. It looks to me like there is a lot of promising developments as far as adult stem cell research is concerned anyway and we don’t need to go down that other road.

Of course I am also concerned about these children after they’re born. I’m concerned about the cultural environment that they’re going to grow up in. I’m concerned about the fact that we’re bankrupting our entitlement program that’s going to saddle them with unbelievably high taxes when they’re going to try to start their families and buy that first home. I’m concerned most of all about their safety. We have an enemy in this World that would like nothing more than to kill thousands more innocent Americans; men, women, and children. I know you share those concerns, and I look forward to working together with you on them. Thank you so much for letting me be with you here for a few minutes today.”

He sure does come across as authentic. It's downright folksy and non-threatening. It really is his first official "salvo" into the pro-life arena as a presidential candidate. Oh, that's right. I forgot. he's not a candidate...yet.

Now before I hear from the Romney and McCain supporters about this, The Brody File is all about fairness. Mitt Romney addresses the group Friday. We plan to search out video of his remarks. If we can’t get video, we’ll post his comments. As for John McCain, he is not speaking at the event. I called the McCain campaign about this.

Spokesman Danny Diaz tells The Brody File:

“Unfortunately, Senator McCain’s schedule will not allow him to attend but certainly this is an issue that is important to him and one that he communicates with voters as he travels the country.”

The Brody File has been told that Sam Brownback and Ron Paul will speak too. Mike Huckabee was invited to the event but he had a scheduling conflict because he's out raising money in Texas. As for Rudy Giuliani, umm…well…umm…enough said. He’s probably watching past campaign ads of himself. Like this one. Nice hair. Click here.

If you've ever experienced a gaggle of honking geese, that is the most apropos image of the WH Press Corps I've ever contemplated ... and David Gregory is that confused gender goose/gander which is constantly pecking at you as the gaggle honks and waddles on by.

You have a most visual imagination, M! And I can just picture what you wrote!

Then again, I tend to think of honking donkeys, not geese.... Every barnyard's got at least one, dontcha know.

Ah, when the gaggle is no longer in the presence of normal humans, the members are transmogrified (as in a magical transformation a la Calvin and Hobbs) into donkey herd, and when two or more donkeys gather, they are constantly nipping at each other. But just let a normal human appear to approach the teeth bared nipping donkeys and they transmogrify back to geese in a wave of startling dissonance.

You may have witnessed Andrea Mitchell when in the company of Tim Rusbucket —she’s all donkey, but just let her sit with Bill O’Reilly and she transforms into a honking goose trying to snap at anything offered. Same for Whorealdo, in the company of fellow leftist lieberal scum --he's a teeth bared donkey braying about nothing, but let Michelle Malkin appear and Gerry Rivers transmogrifies into a honking goose with beak flailing out at her as he waddles his limited intellect about flapping his too little wings.

LOL!!! I gather you saw Michelle Malkin and Jerry Rivers on Fox News last evening. You give a great description of Whorealdo! His limited intellect cannot get beyond the idea of "group politics" -- which is, of course, anathema to the Constitution. The dude is so clueless....

Sigh.... "Clueless" seems to be a general description for these nipping donkeys that "transmogrify back into geese in a wave of startling dissonance."

Thanks for the chuckle, my friend!

Thank you oh so very much for your insights into Huckabee! I missed the debate - now I am sorry that I did.

Who was quoted in that statement? I somehow doubt that he'd have received the endorsement of the National Right to Life group if that statement were true. Or, it could be that he was against parts of the plank because of his Federalist ideas, and this person was issuing a blanket statement based on that.

It sure sounded pretty cut and dried that he's pro-life in the statement he made to the group in the video. I really ike the fact that he's coming out in favor of ADULT Stem Cell research!

Hey SuziQ...that was Terry Jeffrey from Human Events. He stands behind his statement that Thompson was pro-choice at the time, but he is very glad that Thompson is now pro-life.

I consider him a solid pro-life conservative with no reason to lie and he had personal contact with Thompson in 1996. I believe that everyone can draw their own conclusions from that.
Have a great Saturday! Hot in Swampeast Missouri !

Well I know personally how statements can be misconstrued by folks in the press. I know a family whose son was running for Congress, and a newspaper "quoted" him as being "pro-choice". When the paper came out the following morning, his Mama called him chewing him out. He was flabbergasted, because he'd never said any such thing.

Terry Jeffrey probably concluded that Fred Thompson was pro-choice because of his Federalist ideas that the government shouldn't be involved in every single aspect of our lives. But it may also be true that he at one time felt, as many do, that abortion should be legal in the hard cases of rape, incest, or in the event the mother's life is threatened. I'd read somewhere, recently, that seeing the ultrasounds of his two young children had had a profound effect on him, so maybe he's tightened his opposition even more.
