Bush to lock funds for border security (gag alert)

WASHINGTON - President Bush , trying to salvage an immigration overhaul legislation, endorsed a plan Thursday that would lock in money for border security as way to win over conservative lawmakers and a skeptical public.

Bush got behind a propos, , ) of South Carolina, have proposed such an amendment.

The provision would immediately divert $4.4 billion toward border security, with that amount to be paid back once new fees are in place. The point would be to ensure that border security would not be subject to the whims of the yearly budget negotiations.

With many questions unanswered, it was unclear how much of a concession the move amounts to for Bush.

A bipartisan group of senators crafted a fragile compromise on the immigration bill that Bush supports. But the deal is in deep trouble, because many Republicans oppose that it provides a way for millions of immigrants who entered the country illegally to become legal.

Bush said the bill emphasizes security by requiring tougher border and workplace measures before new options for immigrants and guest workers could begin. Already, he said, border agents are capturing and sending home huge numbers of people trying to cross illegally.

The legislation stalled last week when only seven GOP senators supported a Democratic bid to limit debate — called a cloture vote — and expedite a final vote.

"We feel confident there are going to be enough votes for cloture," he said.

I called both Chambliss and Isakson again. I told them to check out the web, Georgians are too smart for this-Chambliss is toast if he votes for cloture-regardless if he votes for the bill or not. Isakson is toast two years later.

If they barely made it/just missed it or whatever with the base, they will have no prayer without the base. I am willing to make sure 2008 is the year they learn this once and for all.

See- this is why they won’t listen to us. They think fear of Hillary will make us come home and vote for them. I say-we will have to make them understand even if Hillry wins that we will not vote for them-they can not do anything they want and expect us to vote for them because we have no choice.

What’s the point? You’ve just validated and legitimated the last 12 million illegals to come into the country, and provided a huge incentive for more people to try to come here illegally. So why bother spending money on half-hearted border security measures?

Our government would be really funny, if our situation wasn’t so serious.

“Let’s say the number of illegal aliens in America is 15 million. Let’s say they all get “amnesty”. If only 20% of them turn out in 2008, and reward the party that made it happen - 3,000,000 votes are enough to decide the presidential election.”

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sounds like “fuzzy math” to me....taking into consideration his going diametrically opposite to the will of 71% of the general population.

LOL

“...the Democrats will be infinitely worse.”

Impossible, if this bill passes. Do the math. This will drive up the tax rate through the roof. Whom ever is the next turd sitting in the whitehouse will have to face the fact that we can’t mortgage, or grow our way out of being able to afford 20+ million and their dependents.
