Bush to lock funds for border security (gag alert)
Associated Press ^ | 14 June, 2007 | DEB RIECHMANN

WASHINGTON - President Bush , trying to salvage an immigration overhaul legislation, endorsed a plan Thursday that would lock in money for border security as way to win over conservative lawmakers and a skeptical public.

Bush got behind a propos, , ) of South Carolina, have proposed such an amendment.

The provision would immediately divert $4.4 billion toward border security, with that amount to be paid back once new fees are in place. The point would be to ensure that border security would not be subject to the whims of the yearly budget negotiations.

With many questions unanswered, it was unclear how much of a concession the move amounts to for Bush.

A bipartisan group of senators crafted a fragile compromise on the immigration bill that Bush supports. But the deal is in deep trouble, because many Republicans oppose that it provides a way for millions of immigrants who entered the country illegally to become legal.

Bush said the bill emphasizes security by requiring tougher border and workplace measures before new options for immigrants and guest workers could begin. Already, he said, border agents are capturing and sending home huge numbers of people trying to cross illegally.

The legislation stalled last week when only seven GOP senators supported a Democratic bid to limit debate — called a cloture vote — and expedite a final vote.

"We feel confident there are going to be enough votes for cloture," he said.

“My guess is George, and all the other politicos see tens of millions of Hispanic votes hanging in the balance”

No. That was Rove’s racist spin

It’s about the money

The Republican party cannot afford to alienate the major business concerns (i.e. agricultural and construction industries)that rely upon cheap immigrant labor. This will not change.

“BUILD THE FENCE!”
Fuggedaboutit gidget: if the border is in fact secure we won’t get another several million “guest workers/undocumented immigrants” on the “path to citizenship” within the next few years to replace the newly minted citizens who “come out from the shadows” chomping at the bit to submit lower bids to do our jobs, the jobs we don’t want to do—if it means living 12 adults to a house, and they won’t be able to go home as well, to tell even more of their family and friends how wonderful things are here. At least for now.
They have no intention of securing the border. It’s all `smoke and mirrors’.
Thinking in metaphors. Thank you, Messieurs Bush, Reid and Kennedy.

"...to deliberat[e]ly put us in a situation where our people can be seriously hurt, is beyond my comprehension."

That's a risk that our Senators and President are willing to take, largely because it's risk-free for them. After all, we citizens, err, sheeple, are "collateral damage" if anything happens.

Read the voting statistics. "The Hispanic Vote" is not all that strong. Not NEARLY as strong as "The Base," which they are so foolishly willing to throw away.

Nah, he's right...it's about the money.

Well if Lindsay grahamCRACKER is involved you know there is a sell out somewhere for conservatives.

Lindsay is a punk who may just be a little lite in the shorts.

“The Republican party cannot afford to alienate the major business concerns”

I don’t think they can afford to alienate the rest of us either. I think you are right and that the party will not change, but the voters will. Good-bye Republican Party.

Bush is mistakenly convinced that a merging of the Americas will be the only thing in the future that will enable us to counteract the terrorist threat and keep us economically intact against a powerful EU. He has no intention of building any fence or stemming the tide of Illegals. It's just a carrot stick to get all of us wayward conservatives to fall in step. BTW he's already sattled our kids with all the spending he and the Dem Congress are porking around with. What's another billion or two... sorry Mr. President that wallet has slammed shut.

OK.

So get to work, and we’ll talk again after it’s done.

All 854 miles Duncan Hunter’s bill called for, approved back in August 2006.

DON’T LET THEM FOOL YOU! KEEP UP THE HEAT! THIS ONE NEEDS TO GO DOWN IN FLAMES ALSO! They already have the funding for the fence, all 750 miles of it and for security, so why are we being told it’s included in this bill? Because they all think we are stupid and will eventually lay back and go away. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN! They are telling us what we want to hear but not making the changes to bring it about. ITS VERY SIMPLE
CLOSE THE BORDERS,
ERECT THE 750 MILE FENCE( ALL OF IT)
DEPLOY THE NATIONAL GUARD ARMED AND IN NUMBERS
AND THEN AND ONLY THEN WILL WE SIT AND DEBATE WHAT TO DO WITH THE ILLEGALS HERE
Something to think about: If Ted Kenedy is still on board with this revised plan IT IS NO GOOD! When he rejects it, now there may be something interesting to look at! KEEP UP THE HEAT!

The border will not be secured by our government, that is obvious.

It's time for us to do it ourselves and disregard anything these assholes say. Otherwise, we are just pissing in the wind.

It is difficult to give up on GWB, the alternative is frightening, but it is time to fight him and the rest of these appeasers.

I agree, if these elite idiots cared about our way of life, they wouldn't’t be pushing this POS. When was the last time you were in Southern California??

“Be prepared for about a hundred more.”

Bush’s response is quite different from Saxby Chambliss’s e-mail.

Chambliss suggested an emergency bill.

Notice Bush has said nothing about an emergency bill.

His only response is that he will put the funds in a lockbox.

So, this latest, greatest idea is actually a sham as well.
