FDA tests found antifreeze chemical; agency unsure if items are counterfeit.
Five-ounce tubes of toothpaste labeled Colgate and sold in discount stores in four states are being recalled because they may contain a poisonous chemical, according to the importer. A Food and Drug Administration official, Doug Arbesfeld, confirmed that testing had found the chemical in a product with the Colgate label. But he said the agency is unsure if it is really Colgate or a counterfeit.

There was no immediate reply to an e-mail message left with a Colgate-Palmolive spokesman Wednesday evening.
MS USA Trading, Inc. of North Bergen, N.J., said the toothpaste may contain diethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze.
The company said the toothpaste, imported from South Africa, was sold in discount stores in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Made in South Africa is printed on the box and includes Regular, Gel, Triple and Herbal versions.
Sounds like the the Hand of China again!

Mine says propylene glycol. Are they even adding diethylene on the ingredients???

I’ve brushed with baking soda (soft brush!) for several years now but that’s because I’m a wuss. The foaming of toothpaste makes me throw up. Baking soda doesn’t taste that great but it gets the job done...cheaply, too!

Maybe they saved even more $ by importing from South Africa instead of China.

that's not the only poison in your toothpaste... any toothpaste with fluoride. Have you read the warning label on it? No. I haven't. I guess I better do that now.
And you put this stuff in your mouth? and in your kids mouths?,
Yes. Only in mine. I don't have anyone else to poison. LOL!
Got the emergency number for the poison control center posted by your phone?
Uh oh, I guess I better do that too. ;o)
Seriously, I had NO clue, but I'm certainly going to find out now. What do you use to brush your teeth? I use baking soda sometimes. I wonder if that's bad for them too?

I know the Chinese own many factories in Mexico, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they had some in S. Africa as well. I have no doubt this stuff came from China.
