The favorable portrait of honest and hard-working illegal immigrants who simply want to feed their families was shattered when federal agents arrested dozens of undocumented workers using dead and elderly Americans Social Security numbers along with previously deported criminals at an Oregon food processing plant.
More than 165 undocumented workers were arrested in the raid at a major Portland fruit and vegetable processing plant for food giant Del Monte. At least 90 employees had fraudulent Social Security cards and many used the real Social Securities of juveniles, the elderly and the deceased. Others had fake green, or residency, cards and at least three are convicted felons who had been previously deported.
The previously deported criminal illegal immigrants had been convicted in U.S. courts with crimes ranging from possession of heroin to identity theft and possession of counterfeit alien registration documents.
Immigration authorities launched an investigation into the plant a few months ago when a check of employee records pointed that only 48 of the nearly 600 plant workers had valid Social Security numbers. Because the plant staff varies according to seasonal employment changes, only 165 illegal aliens were arrested in this weeks raid.
Portland Mayor Tom Potter was outraged by the immigration raid, saying that it is bad policy for federal officials to go after local workers who are in his city to support their families while filling the demands of local businesses. He immediately issued a written statement expressing his anger and referring to the illegal immigrants as Portland residents.
bump
552 invaders/con-men/scam artists/identity theft/ criminals working there? Unfrigginbelievable!
Portland is a gorgeous city , .. too bad
however , .. glad I don’t live there anymore ,.. I live in a place that is much less “leftie-controlled”

The only problem I can see is using a “child’s” social security number to open a line of credit. What a surprise it will be to children upon reaching their majority to find out they are already in bankruptcy. Now THAT would be a bummer. As to paying SS and taxes under the SS#, I can see where you might not care — it’s that credit background check you can’t get a job without that gives me pause.
Well I think something a little more personal, such as a midnight swim with ted Kennedy, would be in order.
No matter how you cut it, it’s a bad deal for elderly illegals who will not get the SS they’re entitled to and those how get shafted before they come out of the starting blocks or after they’ve passed the finish line.
It’s just so dishonorable — not good. Really not good.
No, the article doesn't talk about that at all. What the hell are you reading? The article is talking about illegals stealing the social security numbers of the elderly (and others). Although another article today talked about illegals getting welfare and other bennies BECAUSE they stole the numbers.
And millions of us pay into accounts we'll never collect on.
No problem, as soon as jorge and ted, and gramnesty get the bill past all will be forgiven and no crime will have taken place. âsac offâ
I doubt it. The thieves would first have to go thru an immigration court to be charged with violating immigration laws, then local and/or federal courts could charge them with the various crimes committed which violate either or both jurisdiction’s laws. All during this process their lawyers funded partially by the taxpayers or groups such as the ACLU will be filing appeal after appeal to get their release back into the general population on humanitarian grounds & other dubious, irrational legal claims. BTW, their is a backlog of 600,000 cases in the immigration courts, so it might be some time before individual cases are heard. For those who conspired to commit mass identity fraud or have other felony convictions an expedited method can be used to get them thru the courts, but if that is true why did they not go thru that same process the first time they were detained for a criminal act. Answer, in many cases the local arresting authority does not report the incident of crime to ICE and/or ICE does not have sufficient manpower to cover all the volume of violations. In addition, sanctuary localities do not even attempt much of the time to report such crimes to ICE, unless they have to do with more serious crimes such as drug smuggling in which case FBI normally takes jurisdiction.
BTW, here is a list of sanctuary cities for the USA. http://ojjpac.org/sanctuary.asp
Portland is a SANCTUARY CITY
I never heard that stereotype. What was he smoking when he wrote that?
So someone shows income attached to your social security number, puts you in a higher tax bracket (you're now making almost double). They claim 10 deductions, have nothing or almost nothing taken out. You are saying you're more than happy to pay the rest of this increased income tax?
You can sue a thief, a trespasser, a batterer or assault-er--it's what they did to OJ after the criminal courts failed. It's called an "intentional tort". Check your homeowner's policy--you're not insured for an intentional tort. You can't punch a guest in the nose and expect your insurance to cover you.
And there's such a thing as being complicit in an intentional tort--like aiding a dangerous trespasser, helping (or seeming to help) someone to get false ID--
I've wondered if ranchers on the border could go after those who help illegals trespass and trash up their property...like these do-goody church leaders.
honest and hard-working illegal immigrants who simply want to feed their families....
:o)
How magnanimous of them. They were even willing to commit federal felonies to do their random acts of kindness.
I suppose that’s just peachy with you, huh?
You don't know anything about income taxes do you? You just think since they're paying into your social security all is well.
If they use your number, they are qualifying for earned income credit, they even get more out than they paid in.
Great trade off for all the welfare, food stamps, health care, and education they cost us, not to mention the gang and drug issues and clogging up our criminal justice system.
