Plaintiff tears up testifying of lost pants
Washington Times ^ | 6-13-07 | Andrea Benda

D.C. Superior Court yesterday took on the $54 million question: Whose pants are these?

An administrative law judge became teary and choked with emotion as he told the court how the family-owned Custom Cleaners on Bladensburg Road Northeast lost his trousers in May 2005, then tried to cover up the error by offering him a bogus pair.

It was "a 'Twilight Zone' experience," testified Roy Pearson, who is suing Custom Cleaners owners Jin Nam, Ki and Soo Chung and seeking $54 million for his lost pants.

Mr. Pearson, who is acting as his own attorney, called himself as a witness. He will be cross-examined today by defense attorney Chris Manning.

"[The Chungs] hope tomorrow all this will be behind them," Mr. Manning said at a press conference after yesterday's proceedings. "This case really lacks all merit. [Mr. Pearson] should have just used the free-market system and gone down the street to another dry cleaner."

Mr. Pearson originally sought to sue the South Korean immigrants for $65 million under a strict interpretation of the District's consumer protection law. The law levies a daily fine of $1,500 per violation.

I hope he wins. Then I will have precedent to sue the cobblers who lost my Zodiac ankle boots. (Never checked to see if she was wearing them.)

Nobody will, because the litigious bastard might sue them too.

LOL:

After he began the lawsuit for his pants, his nickname became "Sponge Roy No Pants" and "that stupid douche bag".

His divorce proceedings are interesting; some of them are linked at the wikipedia site.

I sued Denny's for a billion million gazillion dollars and won the case. The only catch is they paid me in pixie dust ...

HA! You should have taken the magic beans!

Good common sense !!! Maybe the dry cleaner is clearly guilty. In which case, let’s find them guilty and award this dude damages linked to the property value. $50 sounds good for a pair of pants. Why can he sue for millions?? why is this case even being heard in a court of law??? Why is this case being taken seriously??/ Does this guy realize what a joke he is????

After this is all over, I wonder how many people will want to go back and question all the cases this judge has tried in the past. I know of an instance like that where a judge who handled divorce cases was found out to have had several laisons with the women involved in the divorces. All of his previous cases were thrown out as a result of that. This could be very interesting.

Pearson has been on the board, or served as counsel for numerous Washington D.C. community organizations, including the Columbia Heights Youth Club, Fort Lincoln Civic Association, Black Seeds, Inc. Washington Council of Lawyers and the National Council of Black Lawyers.

some how when I did spell check it converted isn’t to that, don’t ask me to explain it because I can not. I have noticed the same type of thing on some other posts, where a contraction was changed like that. Teach brains, can you explain

The divorce document is great. In the end he had to pay her attorney fees. Karma is awesome.

But can someone please explain to me how this current case even made it to trial???

I don’t know what it is either but if you go back to preview and re-type the contraction, it comes out right the second time.

I tell ya...the real reason this guy is suing is because of his racism towards Asians.

There is a lot of hate towards Asian-Americans from African-Americans. Funny this is never brought up by the media

I had a similar experience to the Judge's and I don't think 65 million is at all out of line.

Except in my case, they weren't lost, they were stolen.  By a prostitute.  Really, a transvestite prostitute which wasn't part of the original deal.  And he hit me over the head with a monkey wrench.  And he took my wallet too.

Try explaining that to your wife when you come home at 2 in the afternoon without pants, slurring your speech.  And your kids.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.

“I would find the cleaners guilty and award the judge 50 dollars for another pair of pants and a box of tissues. Poor baby.”

From what I’ve read, this case has cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in defense costs. They are bankrupt and will possibly return to Korea after seeking “The American Dream,” that this idiot has turned into a nightmare.

....his power has gone to his head and he can't accept that sometimes you just have to take the apology in life and move on. ....

He TURNED DOWN an offer to settle for $12,000! You could have a custom tailor make 60 pair of pants for that.

I’m sure a few psychiatrists out there have thought of helping hime, but also of having him sue them. And this is what is truly sad about our society. People will be afraid to lend assistance in even the most common incidents.
