Al D'Amato Endorses Former Senator Fred Thompson For President(Surprising)
NY1News ^ | 6/12/07

On Tuesday’s “Inside City Hall,” former GOP Senator Alfonse D'Amato announced he is backing former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson for the Republican presidential nominee.

Speaking as part of NY1's weekly "Wise Guy's" roundtable, D’Amato said the Law and Order star and fellow Republican is the man to lead the country.

"I think he can provide America with the kind of leadership that the people desperately need, and that this country needs,” said D’Amato. “And you know if America doesn't have a leader that the world can look up to, the world is in trouble."

While Thompson has yet to officially declare his candidacy, he has formed an exploratory committee for a potential run.

One would think he would be supporting Rudy, so this endorsement is shocking.

Well, Rudy endorsed Cuomo in 1994, in a last minute 'shocker.' Fonzie's dog in that race was Pataki. In fact, in Rudy's endorsement of Cuomo, he kept stressing that he was 'his own man.' That was seen, rightly I think, as a shot at D'Amato, since Pataki was considered the guy pulling Pataki's strings by the usual suspects in the media.

Pataki ended up winning, and Rudy was out in the cold. Doesn't surprise me that Fonzie wants anybody but Rudy to win.

To his credit, Al D’Amato was pro-life at a time when New York was heavily pro-abortion.

Even New York Al knows that Rudy’s statist mentality and liberal stances don’t play in real America. The Fred train is about to start rumbling out the gate.

Al DAmato DESPISES Rudy because Rudy prosecuted Al’s brother, who was led away in handcuffs in front of Al’s mother. I’ve heard Al D explain that on the radio so this endorsement is not a surprise.

I’m a little surpised so few here knew that DAmato hates Giuliani for the reason stated above, D’Amato has freely admitted as much.
