Agency Urges Schools To Protect Research

BOSTON -- The FBI is warning colleges to be on the lookout for foreign spies or potential terrorists who might try to steal unclassified, sensitive research.

WCVB-TV reported that the security alert comes from the new head of Boston's FBI office.

Agents have made visits to local campuses such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, warning university authorities and students that spies may pose as international students or visitors to steal sensitive information or research that could be used by terrorists.

Academics at top research universities, such as Harvard, are being warned to protect their research at all times and to secure their laptops when they travel, particularly when visiting foreign companies.

The universities also are being told to be wary of hotel Internet systems and to beware of hackers or anyone taking an inordinate interest in their research.

For a college kid it should be easy. Just be wary of the folks who act like they actually give a sH@t about you.

What took them so long to do this?

At least where I was in academia, there was at least a bit of
attention paid to the problem of spying/espionage by provacateurs,
both foreign and domestic.

Actually, it could be that the defenses are actually stronger at
what we'd consider major "liberal" universities. That's where
the liberal wingnuts raid animal experimenation units and
destroy test plots of genetically-modified plants (although
sometimes they f--- up and actually destroy natural plants!).

I suspect the level of vigilance peaked about 2-3 years after
9-11. I had enough conversations with an RSO (Radioactive Safety
Officer) at the major West Coast research university I worked at to
convince me that they were taking seriously the terrorist threats
and even thinking "outside the box" about security.

BUT, I fear with passing years without another 9-11...people
will become complacent and the infiltrators will simply wait until
they see and seize their moment.

Why bother? The overwhelmingly liberal college people will just take them in, feed them, and provide them with safe-houses. If it’s against America, they’re all for it. The public schools and colleges have been breeding grounds for traitors for 50 years.

Thirty-plus years ago, I was in college, and I met a bunch of students from the Middle East. As I got to know them, they told me that their tuitions were paid by the PLO and they were sent here to recruit PLO members. As a result, the turnover was rather frequent, as they left one college for another.

I remember being shocked at how strongly they felt, being willing to die for the PLO, no matter what.

They scared me with their militancy and I decided to have nothing to with them.

Today, I’m sure it’s still going on — recruiting for Islam in American colleges.

I have never understood why we let them in here on student visas or for any other reason.

In the early 70’s, after my brother returned from Viet nam, he was contacted by some Federal agency to request him to keep track of any radical elements when he attended school at College of Dupage in Lombard, Illinois, I believe my brother told the CIA to go take a hike.
