Defendant in UNC attack apologizes for actions

The man accused of striking nine people when he drove a vehicle on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last year has apologized in a letter sent to the court. In the letter dated May 20 and sent to Orange County Superior Court, Mohammed Taheri-azar said he is "very sorry for the crimes which I committed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on March 3, 2006. I sincerely regret what I did on that day. Please release me from state custody so that I may pursue my goal of living a productive life in California."

Taheri-Azar, 23, said he hopes to work for his father's general contracting company in Anaheim, Calif., and "re-establish myself as a good, caring and productive member of society."

In the letter, Taheri-Azar also apologizes for his actions March 5 of this year in the courtroom, when he said he hated all Americans and Jews and called his attorney a moron.

"I ... apologize for my distasteful conduct in your courtroom on March 5, 2007. I promise you that I will never again in my life display such poor, ignorant behavior," he wrote.

Afterward, Public Defender James Williams said his client "has a severe mental illness."

Taheri-azar pleaded not guilty in January to nine counts of attempted first-degree murder and nine counts of felonious assault. He struck nine people as he drove a rented SUV through the Pit, a campus gathering spot.

“The man accused of striking nine people when he drove a vehicle on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last year has apologized in a letter...”

“In the letter, Taheri-Azar also apologizes...”

“...display such poor, ignorant behavior,” he wrote.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems pretty clear that this was all in a letter. I’m not sure how it could be any clearer.

Please release me from state custody so that I may pursue my goal of living a productive life in California trying to kill more infidels."

What... Killing the infidel is not productive? Have you even read the Koran?

If, as his public defender claims, he “has a severe mental illness” that makes him prone to driving vehicles through crowds of people, he belongs in a secure psych hospital, not running around free. And the idea of this guy working in a construction business is way scary. Lots of heavy machinery, often explosives available, lots of opportunity to sabotage the structural integrity of a building . . .

Poor guy...I think he should be released to work with dear old dad just as soon as he completes a 40 or 50 year sentence.

I have a brilliant idea....let him work for Nifong and then Nifong can send him to California later! Maybe I should suggest this to the courts there in North Carolina and I know the prosecutors in that state would be proud to help out this wacko and the other wacko-Nifong!

The second paragraph, in it's entirety: Taheri-Azar, 23, said he hopes to work for his father's general contracting company in Anaheim, Calif., and "re-establish myself as a good, caring and productive member of society."

If he wrote it in a letter, it should say "wrote". If he said it out loud, it should say "said". If somebody else, such as his lawyer, wrote the letter, as I would wager is almost certainly the case, that should be made clear also.

Glad you’re sorry, now rot your life away for a few decades, and I’ll maybe believe a word out of your lying mouth.

This is known as “taqqiyah” in Arabic: Basically it is lying to infidels while in pursuit of ‘jihad’. This is considered not only allowable, but it is encouraged.

He, obviously, means none of what he professes in the letter and, when released, will continue his hateful ways just as many of the released Gitmo illegal combatants have.

His true nature was displayed in the courtroom and at the crime scene.

I promise you that I will never again in my life display such poor, ignorant behavior," he wrote.

"Ignorant" ?? No, this was not ignorant behavior. It was detestable, sociopathic, felonious and murderous. He may also be an ignoramus, but that is beside the point. Twenty-five to life would be OK with me.

Next case.

Please note that he only apologized for his “display/behavior”. He did not renounce what he said(”hating all Americans and Jews”). Thus, he is only apologetic for publicly stating his hate; he is not renouncing that hate.
