The man accused of striking nine people when he drove a vehicle on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last year has apologized in a letter sent to the court. In the letter dated May 20 and sent to Orange County Superior Court, Mohammed Taheri-azar said he is "very sorry for the crimes which I committed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on March 3, 2006. I sincerely regret what I did on that day. Please release me from state custody so that I may pursue my goal of living a productive life in California."
Taheri-Azar, 23, said he hopes to work for his father's general contracting company in Anaheim, Calif., and "re-establish myself as a good, caring and productive member of society."
In the letter, Taheri-Azar also apologizes for his actions March 5 of this year in the courtroom, when he said he hated all Americans and Jews and called his attorney a moron.
"I ... apologize for my distasteful conduct in your courtroom on March 5, 2007. I promise you that I will never again in my life display such poor, ignorant behavior," he wrote.
Afterward, Public Defender James Williams said his client "has a severe mental illness."
Taheri-azar pleaded not guilty in January to nine counts of attempted first-degree murder and nine counts of felonious assault. He struck nine people as he drove a rented SUV through the Pit, a campus gathering spot.
Note the reality. He took his jeep off the road and drove it at high speed through a popular pedestrian plaza with the intent of killing as many people as possible.
“Please release me so that I can continue to wage Jihad against you stupid Infidels!”
As this was a case of SJS, I expect the courts to release him immediately.
Thanks for the apology... but apologies aren’t enough for CRIMINAL behavior. Into the slam, buddy-boy.
Note how the article implies that Mohammed Taheri-azar actually said these things, when in fact it is quoting extensively from a letter written to the judge.
Anybody who thinks Mohammed Taheri-azar actually wrote that letter might be interested in buying a time-share of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Are you trying to discredit this man’s apology? Come on, where’s your compassion? /sarc
Lock him up in a ‘snake pit’ and throw away the key.
Well, he said he was sorry. What more do you people want?
“Please release me from state custody”
He needs to be released all right . . . from being alive.
California is full. Stay in North Carolina.
I only have 1 question:
Was he charged with a hate crime?
...must be taking Paris notes.....yeah, release the plug and send him to Iraq where he can earn his freedom
Not only that, I'M QUESTIONING HIS PATRIOTISM!!!
Oh? He apologized to the judge? OK, that makes it all better. Release him immediately. /sarc
“I promise you that I will never again in my life display such poor, ignorant behavior.”
And guess what Jerry Jihadi? We have a way of insuring just that. We call it PRISON.

“Was he charged with a hate crime?”
If any of the victims were white Christians, then it’ can’t possibly be a hate crime.
