Tony Snow is about to appear live on FOX & Friends on FOX News. The subject is Bush's push for immigration "reform".
Where’s the insult? Was there not outrage over the prior bill?
As I said earlier, cutting off government programs would do a lot to make this problem more manageable.
Hmmmm... Those of us who with an illegal alien population in or near our communities also have dozens of remesadoras (remittance agencies) at every strip mall.
More than $20 billion was remitted to Mexico last year, $62 billion to all of Latin America and the Caribbean, and most of that's from America. Remittances to Mexico are predicted to be the number one source of revenue this year, exceeding that of Pemex (the state owned oil company).
The Treasury Department was supposed to complete a computer system to monitor remittance shops at the end of this year, but (surprise!) it won't done for another three years.
And my wife and all her family are legal immigrants. Consequently, they don’t get the freebies and had to pass health screening as well. And the process took years and years (like 10 yrs...don’t need all them legals when we are flooded with illegals).
Illegals get freebies and bring in diseases, unlike legals.
Oh wait, with the Kennedy/Bush Amnesty, there would be a background check. With a 1 day suspense which is impossible to meet. With a shall issue requirement if the 1 day background check is not completed by then.
I can understand the Dems pushing this. But Bush? Clearly he has been replaced with a Pod Person, to be for such a garbage bill.
When was it that "the right didnt present itself well"?
Cheney in a wheelchair is better than Bush on a horse.
No need for it. The current law is that it's a felony to employ illegal aliens.
Provide details.
“How would you find the money they send?”
All electronic money transfers are traceable by both point of origin as well as destination....routing numbers...etc
Western Union, Bank transfers.... that is the easy part.
I don’t question the volume and you could go after remittance agencies (noting that the governmental commitment was made) but I have to believe that it may be harder to trace because there are so many ways to get money out of the country.
Apart from the more conventional methods, an easy way would be to open up an account in the US and process direct withdrawals (by other family members) from that institution in a foreign office.
There are many ways that they can get money out.
Ouch...and good point!

What I despised, deplored, and was disgusted by throughout all this was the way conservatives treated each other as it related to disagreements over this issue. There were strong arguments for and against this bill, but lost in all that was the need to one up the opposition, whether it was Senator Graham foolishly accusing the bills opponents of being bigots, the President wrongly questioning the patriotism of conservative critics or people like Tom Tancredo and others like him claiming that anyone who didnt oppose every aspect of this bill had to be a proponent of open borders and shamnesty and were, essentially, traitors to their country for not wanting to secure its borders. Incidentally, Tom Tancredo is a guy I do not respect, considering hes not just against illegal immigration, but hes against legal immigration as well.1 Tancredo is popular with many on the anti-immigration bill side, and I hope to see more denounciations of his suggestion in the immediate future. Of course, I have to wonder how many Tancredo supporters agree with that sentiment, especially since hes been expressing it for a few years now and has maintained his popularity amongst staunch immigration bill opponents. Oh, and lets not forget the calls for impeachment from Michael Savage and Pat Buchanan, either. Along with that, theres at least one full thread devoted to Bushs impeachment not at the Daily Kos or the usual Nutroot hangouts
but the Free Republic. This is insanity.
Nope, what happened was that Harry Reid attempted to ramrod the bill to a vote (it hadn't even been printed yet) over two business days, one recess day, and one weekend. A draft of the bill in non-legislatiev language was finally made available to members on Friday night.
STo sum up, the bill was announced on a Tuesday evening, and Reid wanted a vote on the following Monday night or Tuesday morning.
There was little need to start "arguing a good bill" because there was no printed bill to work from, it was unknown what it contained, and Harry Reid was stating that it would be at least two weeks (after his proposed vote) that the bill would be made available outside of the Senate.
Seems to me that's a significant violation of Senate comity and protocol.
Oh yeah, the bill never went though any committe hearing.
So in another words, if 30 million Americans decided they were not going to allow their taxes to pay for this flood of lawlessness, there is no way the government could go after or round up 30 million tax payers?
Sure, but I can tell you that the volume is high and you have to know what you want to find.
It’s also true that if you don’t catch it immediately, you have a slim chance of recalling the money.
Amid accusations that one group of us didn’t want what’s best for the country and another that called the first group traitors.
Good night, angkor. Thanks for the good discussion.
Cheers,
sl
Sister Toldjah sounds like a whiner. Maybe it’s just me.
