Tony Snow is about to appear live on FOX & Friends on FOX News. The subject is Bush's push for immigration "reform".
:-) I won’t call you names, but I’ve been called at least one on this Thread and I haven’t caught up with the day’s posts yet.
LOL
The Fed should declare a state of emergency along the entire perimeter of the USA. No bill ought to pass until there is a state of emergency declared and drastic steps taken to start to close the borders. Any ideas for correction of the problem should be based on a rate of return model that’ll justify where to put the most effort up front. That’ll result in the sacking of most of the State Department and the immediate construction of a wall along the southern border. Once we see some of this working, we’ll consider the amnesty. If our politicians roll over for these guys without fixing anything, things should not be good for the incumbant.
Pot meet kettle.
It is unrealistic to anticipate enforcement only legislation in this session of Congress.
The secrecy was a bad idea. The point I was making was that this has been handled badly all round.
If you are saying it’s not reparable, we disagree

As I linked earlier, the employer gets clobbered.
“I think we need to leave it for the time being, move along, and see if the next crowd can fix it - they probably can’t either.”
It isn’t a matter of ability. It’s a matter of will. This country managed to simultaneously fight a world war in both the east and the west, and won on both fronts. Are we seriously suggesting that securing our own borders is impossible where successfully fighting a world war wasn’t?
Here's a crazy idea: we could also make the IDs and the visas temporary, so that after 6 or 8 years they go back home. I mean, it used to be called a "temporary worker program", so why not make it temporary?
I know that's "thinking out of the box" and a loopy idea, but it's one I heard from President Bush back in 2004.
Charles, if you go and argue for a good bill and argue vigorously, that’s great. That’s not what happened and the point is whether we get a do over.
I don’t think that we do.
And Tony Snow tries to carry his side of the argument by pointing out what good people are coming and how we shouldn’t stop them. I resent that approach because it implies any disagreement with his opinion is tainted with bigotry. That’s not a nice way to make a point but it’s the only thing he and Bush have got because what they support to revolution against a law. That’s what amnesty is. Why do they get to try and revolt here? Why do they get to use touchie feelie unsubstantiated qualitative arguments in favor of amnesty, thereby casting their opponents as bigoted before there is even a chance for rebuttal?
bump!
I didn’t take your post as chastisement, I realized that you’d made a very good point.
Gondring, fighting a good fight is always important. It’s also important to fight honorably and the right didn’t present itself well.
It may be recoverable, or not. We don’t know at this point.
“The Fed should declare a state of emergency along the entire perimeter of the USA.”
I had that thought, or for the border states to declare.
Did you read Title III?

There were hefty fines for employers and a risk of criminal charges.
But at the core, we still don’t get at the benefits— if the government aid is cut it will have an immediate impact.
Proponents behaved badly, as did opponents.
Not everyone was Senator Sessions and that’s the point.
Pot meet kettle.
“If you drop it now, you take the risk that a larger majority Democrat House and Senate, and possibly a Democrat President arent going to hand you something worse.”
So we should accept a rotten deal from so-called conservatives on the assumption that the left might give us an even more rotten deal?
I’ll be happy to take that risk. I don’t think that the left is willing or able to hatch a more awful deal without the aid and assistance of their friends in the GOP.
Our conservatives better do something dramatic here or we don’t have any left up there. Declaring a state of emergency is a good start. Also switching out who does the processing of the people already here ought to revert to a law enforcement agency and not a state department. it ought to be a very serious process handled by people that aren’t bozos. Military type people would be appropriate for processing these people seeking amnesty. It ought to be a rough f-ing go if you decided to go backdoor. During the state of emergency while we are getting everyone’s attention I expect there will be some hurt feelings as people are interdicted and forced to take a lousy frigate back to someplace in the deep south of Mexico. For the Irish caught in Boston, the same thing, a lousy boat ride back to Ireland. The Chinese are going to have a really long boat ride. Nothing convenient. Lots of seasickness and unpleasantness for the ones caught after amnesty.
