Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has drawn guffaws from the pro-life community for comments saying that embryonic stem cell research, which involves the destruction of days-old human embryos, is a "gift from God." Her remarks came after the House approved a bill to force Americans to fund it.
"Science is a gift of God to all of us, and science has taken us to a place that is biblical in its power to cure... And that is embryonic stem cell research," Pelosi said.
Her comments produced an immediate reaction from pro-life groups, including Tony Perkins the head of the Family Research Council
"Pelosi must not have learned from Rudy Giuliani's experience during the GOP debate when the building was struck by lightening as he sought to justify abortion," he said.
"Of course, it's complete nonsense to suggest that God wants us to destroy human embryos, since they are His own creation," Perkins added. "This is just the latest example of the Left's aggressive efforts to lure the unsuspecting into supporting immoral and unethical policies which are whitewashed with spiritual words and phrases."
Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony list said that pro-life female lawmakers did more to represent women during the bioethics votes last week than Pelosi.
"Thankfully, several pro-life women did stand up to vote no on spending your taxpayer dollars on research that destroys human life," she told LifeNews.com.
"These female members of Congress are true heroines -- unlike so many others, they have not bought into the distortions of compassion perpetuated by corporate science," she added.
Dannenfelser said the pro-life women who voted against human cloning and embryonic stem cell research included Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Barbara Cubin (R-WY), Jo Ann Davis (R-VA), Thelma Drake (R-VA), Mary Fallin (R-OK), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Candice Miller (R-MI), Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), Sue Myrick (R-NC), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), and Jean Schmidt (R-OH).
"Put simply, these Congresswomen recognize that embryos are humans who deserve life and respect. Regardless of their size or level of development, the tiniest humans do not deserve to be treated as products," Dannenfelser concluded.

Did she say just exactly who her god is?
I think it is the same one Hillary worships.
"Every one of those families, every one of us, is one telephone call, one diagnosis away, from needing the benefits of embryonic stem cell research.
"I can't help but think that even those who are against this legislation today would want their family members, their child with diabetes, their husband with Parkinson's, their father with Alzheimer's, their mother with breast cancer, to have the benefit of stem cell research.
"Science is a gift of God to all of us and science has taken us to a place that is biblical in its power to cure and that is the embryonic stem cell research.
How can something not be from God?
OK, no kidding now, is Speaker Pelosi really this stupid or this sly?
In any case, she is no longer a Catholic. A REAL Catholic could not hold this view and remain Catholic.
My word, nothing seems to matter anymore.
Isn’t satan a creation of God’s?
That witch....Thanks because I misread it and did go back.
“Isnt satan a creation of Gods?”
As soon as I saw this, my immediate thought was, “Stem cell research may be a gift from God, but Nancy Pilosi is a grift from the devil!”
Please see my post #27...thanks!
You sure picked up on that truth!
It’s a gift from god when you allow it to mature and live, not when you destroy it.
I'm curious why there has not been a rash of excommunications.
Man is that a dumb thing for her to say. Pelosi is really out to lunch.
Yeah, I feel the same way about fully automatic weapons.
Glad to know the plastic face ha a direct line to God.
Thank you, Dr Mengele.
Allow me to correct your statement.
"Science can be a gift of God to all of us........
Science, like all of life, must be placed in the service of God. Divorced from God, it becomes a monster which looms over us and eventually enslaves us.
Nuclear physics, for instance, can provide us with power and help to sustain human life.......or...........it can be used to build weapons which can destroy life on an apocalyptic scale. In the case of biomedical research, bringing health to the sick is indeed a worthy Christian undertaking. However, to do it at the price of destroying other human life in the process, undermines and makes a mockery of the stated goals.
Yep... excommunicated alright.
Does this mean that God’s gifts are relative to how they are used?
IMO she has sold her soul to be Speaker of the House.
