If you like bi-partisan compromise and progress in the form of more legislation, youre going to love this
Since pretty much every member of congress seems convinced that simple enforcement of the existing immigration laws (that they passed) wont work, and that rights for illegal aliens is a higher priority than the rights of legal law abiding Americans, some form of amnesty is bound to pass sooner or later.
Despite Washingtons marathon effort to screw the American citizen, the Wall Street Journal reports, By a vote of 33-63, the Senate fell far short of the 60 votes that would have been needed to limit debate on the immigration measure and put it on a path to passage. Republicans -- even those who helped craft the measure and are expected to support it -- banded together to oppose that move, while a majority of Democrats backed it.
But they will be back, we know this So we need to cut a deal while we still can.
I propose a single simple amendment to the amnesty bill that might make amnesty acceptable for most Americans, members of congress not included most likely.

I like my amnesty plan!
Please call them INVADERS and don’t compare them to people who are legal aliens!
IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!
President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!
Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.
I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.
Okay, if you need it spelled out
" Anyone picked up after that date, even for jay-walking, will be immediately deported on the basis of that felony, no questions asked, no excuses accepted."
This could be done know and its not so theres no reason to believe it would be done then.
" NO immigrant who arrived or arrives here illegally can EVER attain free medical care."
A laws like that was passed in CA or AZ, and ruled unconstitutional so this one would be too.
" Tax-paying immigrants can send their children to public school so long as they assimilate into the American culture, including our language, and abide by all laws"
Again, attempts to restrict them have been ruled unconstitutional so nothing could be enforced.
" From this moment forward, any member of congress that utters even a single word about reversing any of these conditions, adding more to the amnesty rolls in the future or fails to fully support and fund whatever it takes to secure our borders, immediately forfeits his/her seat in congress, to be replaced immediately by the highest ranking member of their state legislature, from the opposite party."
More unconstitutional nonsense. Its not even close. It would attempt to override the Constitution in multiple places. Youre delusional.
" Fine any politician who promises free stuff to illegal aliens and every institution that provides illegal aliens with free services at tax-payer expense. Apply the three strike rule. If they are caught doing it and fined three times, they are out of business or out of congress for good."
Hope it made you feel good because its just a rant, unconstitutional psychobabble.
Virtually all of it. This is a kook thread.
“JBs latter points are downright silly. I assume they were an attempt at humor.”
I wish...
The INS is no longer.....
The author does not know much about the current bill
It contains the “Dream Act”
The purpose of the dream act is to essentially turn ALL minors, REGARDLESS OF CITIZENSHIP STATUS, into pre-1996 type anchor babies.
Even if birthright citizenship is eliminated to illegals, they then only have to be in a public school to keep the serial immigration pattern.
This is not about amnesty, this is about a full scale open border regardless of any deal.
Don’t forget EVERYTHING the author is demanding was put into the 1996 immigration reform act.
Good list!
BUMP
During the four year course of the "Iraq war" we have not been successful in "securing" the Iraqi border with either Syria or Iran. We need all the fence we can get, complete with all the gee whiz gadgets, motion sensors, FLIR, cameras, seismic monitors, &c. Then add a second fence, about one hundred meters inside the first and parallel to it. It need not be as tall or imposing as the border fence since its only function is to keep citizens from wandering into the free fire zone/mine field.
There, that's fixed! I feel much better now.

“Doing the same thing, over and over, and expecting a different outcome, is indicative of something.”
Answer: Insanity
The problem with that plan is their is no source of cash to line Congress’ pockets. That is what this is all about.
That is the most sensible solution to the problem.
When we get serious about border security, well send troops not fence builders.
Unfortunately you are correct on all counts.
Here’s all the info and proper links for the seven immigration amnesties so far FROM NUMBERS USA website

Definitely I’m for the attrition (self deportation) strategy. The National Review is in favor of it. But the serious criminal aliens will have to be forcibly deported. Employer sanctions won’t impact them. At least most of them
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
As for term limits, it has proven quite the tool to usher out conservatives in California and bring in an ever increasing liberal element from both major parties. Seldom does “new blood” take office wanting to maintain the order of the “old blood” they replace.
The only way I can see that this incredible immigration mess could be resolved to even a barely tolerable degree is to make hiring an illegal immigrant a crime punishable by a federal prison term for the employer and his representative who does the actual hiring. If employers know that they will likely serve hard time for hiring illegals they won't do it, and if illegals can't find jobs here millions of them will go home of their own volition. That, along with something resembling actual border security instead of the make believe version we have now, would solve a large portion of the problem within a couple of years IMHO.
But don't look for a law like that to ever be enacted. Employers at all levels from locally owned Stop N Rob stores to giant multinational agricultural corporations are thriving on cheap illegal labor, and they have much more influence on Congress and the White House than we mere worker bee peons will ever have. Unless of course we were to stick together long enough to vote their scoundrels out and vote our scoundrels in, and we're much too divided among ourselves on too many issues to do that.
That would require repealing that phrase of the 14th Amendment which endows any person born in the United States with full US citizenship. That would require approval by 2/3 of both houses of Congress plus ratification by 38 state legislatures or conventions. That's about as likely to happen as it would be for hell to freeze over in July.
“So my simple amendment would terminate immediately all Federal Programs that provide assistance of any kind to able bodied persons residing the country.”
Most people on assistance are disabled. Or so they allege.
