He says finish high school, go to college or get some kind of after HS training, don’t do drugs, don’t do crime, don’t join a gang, don’t have illegit babies, don’t get married until you finish school, don’t have babies until you are married, etc. And you can possibly avoid poverty. But they aren’t listening and those who hear him think he is just mean.
But those are the same things I told MY kids. The American Dream is born of hard work and sweat! Not Luck or Welfare!
If there were such a title as “Comedian Lauriate” for the USA, Cos is it.
Excuse me, but we all struggle with those elements, whether white, brown, yellow, or black. And by the why, my Irish ancestors were the first true slaves brought over to the new world and were treated much more harshly than a black slave.

I've seen the stats, and those problems didn't start to show up in the black community until the 1940's.
They started to show up in the wider community about 20 years later.
The welfare requirement of no working male in the household was what did it. That was a systematic defect of the welfare system that was an organic inheritance from Jewish welfare practice of direct cash payments to widows in need, which liberal welfare policies copied for obvious reasons. The liberals who grafted these policies onto a secular program didn't stop to think that the strong social and moral controls in the Jewish community and the strong moral leadership exerted by the rabbinate and Jewish womanhood's moral upbringing might be lacking in the wider community, with large consequences. This failure to anticipate the workings of Murphy's Law -- this failure to consult conservative wisdom, frankly -- was what doomed the welfare concept and the programs founded on it.
Your statement is not entirely accurate.First,the Irish were not "brought" here.They were driven out of Ireland by the Brits and chose to go to the US,Canada,Australia and other places.Yes,some were "transported" by British courts but the overwhelming majority (in the US,at least) came voluntarily.Second,I *sincerely* doubt that the typical Irish immigrant was treated as badly as was the typical black slave,although the Irish were once treated badly.
And,for the record,although my ancestors suffered greatly at the hands of the Brits and,as a result,had no choice but to emigrate I thank both my ancestors *and* the Brits for making it possible for me to be a US citizen.What I've seen of Ireland tells me that it's a dreary,depressing,God forsaken place.

Cosby stands out in stark contrast to Jackson, Sharpton and other such black “leaders”.
Cosby preaches individual responsibility as a road to the personal achievement and the personal success of each individual Black American.
Jackson and Sharpton (and far too many others) preach racial and class hatred as a road to the personal achievement and the personal success of Jackson and Sharpton (and others of their parasitic class of “leaders”).
What gets me, particularly regarding Jesse, who goes all the way back to the days of MLK, he never ONCE thought of ways to empower groups of Blacks inside their own communities, to get together, build convenience stores (as just one example) and build a culture of small-business success, like the Koreans did (without any leadership at all), or, in the motel business, as the people from India have done.
Instead of building on the successes of MLK and others, who broke the Jim Crow chains, Jackson and the “leadership” only cared about continuing the fight to “end racism”, never about actually helping individual Black Americans to better themselves as small business entrepreneurs. Perhaps because Jesse is a leftist who hates all business (except his own, of course), it never occurred to him to do this.
What a shame. What a missed opportunity.

The problem with the whole”Cosby message”is tha the ones listening to him don’t NEED the advice and the ones who NEED the advice aren’t listening.
In fact,the average black youth today has only a very vague knowledge of who Cosby even IS.Yet they know all about Little Weezy,E-40 and Ciarra.
The problem with the whole”village”concept among black people is that it should supplement the family,not replace it.
To me the whole village idea is not a bad one even though Hillary throws the word around while not having the faintest understanding about how it is lived.Its not a concept exclusive to blacks either.I grew up in a very tight knit neighborhood where all the families on the block watched out for each other and felt free to be a fill in parent when the real one was unavailable.
However,in the hood today,most blacks have very dysfunctional families and you can’t build a “village”where there is no family structure.The village ITSELF is then dysfunctional and ineffective.
Then there is the irony of the village concept being promoted by middle class and professional blacks who as a group are fairly stable.In the ghetto,however,the ethic is,”nigga,I want to get paid,fool”.
Hardly a good moral foundation to build the communal village upon.
