This month, the FBI announced it had interrupted a plot to attack one of America's busiest airports - JFK International in New York. The target was the airport's complex of airline fuel storage tanks and the pipelines that feed them. At a news conference, Roslynn Mauskopf, the United States attorney in Brooklyn, said, "Had the plot been carried out, it could have resulted in unfathomable damage, deaths and destruction." She added that "The devastation that would be caused had this plot succeeded is just unthinkable." Some of the media later dismissed this threat as ill conceived and technically beyond the means of the 'novice' Muslim planners. But that is what was said about the first attempt to destroy the World Trade Center.

However, it attracted the attention of Osama Bin Laden whose organization carefully planned and carried out the idea with devastating results. I fear the same thing will happened with this idea to use airport fuel depots as built in bombs of enormous destructive capability. Al Qaeda has the technical know how and suicidal manpower to carry out such a plan. Of particular concern to me was the fact that Muslim terrorists from Trinidad and Guyana took part in this plan.

On a speaking engagement in Trinidad last year, I interviewed the courageous former Prime Minister about his experience in the attempted coup of 1990. While held captive, he called a military strike in on himself and the rebels. His Muslim captors almost killed him, leaving him permanently crippled. This same radical Muslim group, Jamaat Al-Muslimeen, also held hostage a friend of mine, fellow minister Sherlock Bally of Trinidad. I learned while visiting there that the tiny nation of just over a million people has a substantial Muslim population - estimated at over 10 percent.

Trinidad officials are concerned about a large Mosque recently built on the thinly populated Northeast end of the Island. It has its own private deep water docking facilities. The fact that it's only a short boat ride from Venezuela is also very troubling. As if we didn't have enough places to worry about already.

My intelligence sources have informed me that certain Muslim groups have been transferring huge sums of money to Venezuela. Hugo Chavez apparently has facilitated these massive money transfers. The money is channeled from there throughout the Caribbean where Islamic entities are purchasing every bank they can get their hands on. From there it can also be easily moved into the United States to support radical Muslim cells. Hugo Chavez has established non-stop air service from Tehran and Damascus to Venezuela. This gives radical Muslim terrorist an easy way to enter the Western Hemisphere.

We know that Venezuelan officials provide them with travel documents that enable them to work their way into the US. Recently, several Pakistanis were apprehended at the US-Mexican border with fraudulent Venezuelan documents. So have non-Mexican illegals from Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Cuba. The Venezuela-Tehran-Damascus air corridor is ferrying Islamic terrorists into Central America, where they are creating an underground army of Hispanic terrorist cells to infiltrate across our southern borders.
