WASHINGTON George W. Bush isn't the first Republican president to face a full-blown immigration crisis on the US-Mexican border.
Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America's southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.
President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents - less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

There it is. That's where we stand. I hope that we find the will to close the border and put increasing pressure on employers by means of penalties and deportations. A direct confrontation and grand solution are unwise and unlikely.
Then perhaps our desires aren't too different. The difference is that I no longer have the hope for those simple solutions to be implemented or for the Congress to even allow thier implementaion is GWB had the will.
Instead, Congress, trying to assert themselves as a branch will innovate and procude a disaster of a bill.
I think something like I suggest as a "grand solution" is really an adroit end run and avoids the "direct confrontation.
If implemented, in the end it would do much of what is central to the desires of many.
Tardping?
Sounds good bro!
We also need to bust the ass of the people who hire illegals.
Fines don’t bother old man Tyson. Put his cherry butt into the slam for 10 years and he will waddle out a different man.
Make it impossible for non-English speakers to buy a candy bar if they cannot produce proof that they have a right to be here.
I totally agree
Why can't a "citizen" who is a minor of parents who are not legal residents, much less citizens, be deport until they are of legal age?
We should all care. I believe his motivation is the New World Order, with the US being part of the North American Union. Open borders, new money and new leadership under the U.N.
I've been thinking that this is the problem with Bush, he has good intentions but bad administrative skills, mainly because he refuses to see the negative in his enemies.

Pure crap.
We are paying so much more in services and incarceration than we are saving by paying criminals, many diseased, a couple of bucks less per hour.
If you have not reported your friend then you are part of the problem too. Give me his name and address and I will report his ass if you are afraid to.
He's my friend, jackass. You know that word F-R-I-E-N-D. And you're completely full of it if you think it would do any good. The streets in front of all the lumberyards in his town are FULL of illegals soliciting work and nobody does anything about it. It's the same in most towns in the U.S. so stop playing the big man, blowhard.

Most of the guys I saw were healthy and very hard workers...so save your ignorant, racist rant for someone else. The savings are far more than a couple of bucks an hour and the guys who hire them make quite a bit of money by doing so. It's the rest of us who are stuck with the bill.
You call me a ignorant, racist and a blowhard.
You truly are a liberal. Your friend’s name is jackass? It fits.
Simply because a neighborhood is full of crack dealers we should make it legal?
“It’s the rest of us who are stuck with the bill.”
The only thing you got right and it makes the rest of your post appear stupid.
Which it is.
Where does this come from? Have I said that we should make the illegals citizens? Crack dealers are treated very differently than poor illegals looking for honest work, legally, conceptually, culturally. My friend, for example, would NEVER think of bringing a crack dealer anywhere near his home. You're living in some sort of paranoid nightmare.
This is the rational part of your argument.
It's correct and is actually an understatement since many of us are paying a price which is hard to measure in money - unsafe schools and streets, fear of assault and humiliation, degraded cities and environments, threats to our values and traditions.
That's why the dispute is so difficult to resolve.
These are criminals. I have neither the patience or the time to educate you as to the difference between illegal and legal. If you had any morals or education you would know the difference.
Quick example: I can legally remove money from my bank with a withdrawal slip. I cannot legally remove money with a gun. Get it? I would try to dumb it down more for you but I am not smart enough to be that dumb.
Your criminal friend does not know if the scum he hires are not drug dealers too. Please tell your friend, jackass, that I hope his savings are worth selling out our country. I will without misusing a comma let you know that you are indeed a jackass.
I just watched 15 minutes of cable news with all sorts of sound bites from politicians. Feinstein thinks her complaining callers were racist. Most of the Senators are looking for a new bill already. None of them want to acknowledge that action on existing law instead of poisonous bi-partisan innovation is what the countryside desires.
They may have heard us, but they didn’t understand.
You're not smart enough to even consider social problems, let alone propose reasonable or workeable solutions. Try soap operas and comic books.
You cannot even stay on topic.
To make it clear you favor criminals and I don’t.
If I have time later I will read a comic book to you as it is probably beyond your capacity.
Tell jackass I said hello. Also tell him that when the illegals harm him that I think that he deserves it and I have no pity.
Is it really your “neighbor” or is it you?
You are a catnip toy and I am a cat. Batting you around is fun but I have grown-up responsibilities to attend to so I will view your next pathetic response later,
