They are not definitive by any means but taken in their totality they show a definate trend toward Thompson.

Let’s see where Fred stands on the Social Issues:
Abortion: Strongly Opposes (I agree)
Affirmative Action: Favors (I disagree)
Teach family values in public schools: Favors (I agree)
Choose schools via vouchers: Strongly favors (I agree)
Death Penalty: Favors (I agree)
Absolute right to gun ownership: Strongly favors ( I Strongly agree!)
Enforce drug laws: Favors (I agree)
Churches provide welfare services: Favors (I agree)

Looks socially conservative to me. I disagree with Fred on Affirmative Action. I agree with him on all the other social issues. I can live with that just fine.
Now, what were you talking about again?

rhombus replied: “Perhaps not. I understand he voted for NAFTA, voted to acquit Clinton on the perjury charge and supported Campaign Finance Reform.”
Last time I checked, those aren’t SOCIAL issues. And Fred voted to convict and remove Clinton from office on the Obstruction of Justice charge.

I heard you can get disbarred in Arkansas for citing the wrong episode of Matlock as precedent.

Here ya go:
"Never has the Senate convicted on an article worded such as this. Several crimes or categories of crimes (the exact number cannot be determined from reading the article) are charged in this one article. The perjurious statements are not described, nor are their dates. In large part, this article charges that the President committed perjury because he denied prior perjury. At the outset, it is clear that a count such as this in an indictment would not survive court challenge..."
"In no way does my conclusion ratify the White House lawyers' view that private conduct never rises to impeachable offenses, or that only acts that will jeopardize the future of the nation warrant removal of the President. It simply recognizes how the principles the Founding Fathers established apply to these facts."

This wasn’t a straw poll. It was a scientific survey with a 4% margin of error.

“So we can start believing straw votes now. A week ago people were screaming they were junk. Good to know that we can take them seriously now.”
Junk? Maybe. All depends on how they were taken and who were being polled. As I said this poll was done at the GOP county convention - so those choosing to take part in the poll were Replublican deligates and PCO captains. So it does offer insight as to which candidate the Replublicans in Washingtons largest county lean.
To: napscoordinator
Apologies. I was thinking about the NC poll, while you were talking about the WA straw poll. My bad...

So we can start believing straw votes now. A week ago people were screaming they were junk. Good to know that we can take them seriously now.
I hear you. I still think they're all junk, even if they do favor "my guy". They do demonstrate that Fred's having an impact, but not yet that he's going to win. The first poll I really care about is the Iowa convention straw poll in August.
For what it's worth, I fully expect Romney to win that one and to actually win the caucus in January, though I do not expect him to win the nomination. If he plays it right, he could purloin that into a VP nomination, which, contrary to conventional wisdom, is a fairly rare achievement for someone who runs for President. If memory serves, John Edwards and George H.W. Bush are the only two VP nominees in the last 30 years who started out running for President that same year. Romney winning Iowa would put him in a situation similar to that of both men.

Thank you very, very much for providing this information. Instead of attacking, you provided information. That counts for you.

Right you are that they are not social issues. But these are hot-button issues for some who call themselves “REAL” conservatives which is why I asked about them and wondered what people thought about them.

OK maybe “spoon-fed” was a bit strong. I loved the Thompson video. That was great stuff but I didn’t think Thompson came off particularly strong in the Hannity interview. Surely it’s only one interview. It’s just that it was built up so much, coming after the debates that it was kind of a let down.

And maybe Hannity is smarter than I give him credit for. After all he is doing some good work on behalf of the cause. He just needs to lose the script.
Fred impressed me in the interview. However, truth be told, I really expected to be let down (pardon my jadedness). The questions put to him were about the issues with which I have concern. I was happy to hear his answers. There were even a few big questions that he answered in one syllable. That scores big points in my book.
