Today is the Cloture Vote on Immigration Bill [first cloture vote fails; 2nd cloture vote fails]
7 June 2007 | Gulf War One

Posted on 06/07/2007 6:17:41 AM PDT by Gulf War One

This is the homestretch.

Call and e-mail your senators today, Republicans and Democrats, urging them not to table debate on this critical piece of legislation.

It deserves a fair and open debate of all ramifications. To do otherwise is unamerican.

Ask them to vote "NO" on cloture.

Keep bumping this to the top.

Today is the day.

I called C-SPAN this morning and mentioned that (a) the $5,000 fine is actually $1,000 upon Z visa application, with the $4,000 balance due upon application for permanent residence 8 years later; and (b) the $1,000 Z visa fine is actually payable in installments beginning with $200 (two hundred) upon submission of the application.

No one is going to pay $5,000, or even $1,000, despite the vile lies and deceptions that are spewed by "the world's greatest deliberative body" and Senator Single Bullet Theory.

Yeah, how about that alternative on the tiny piece re: not letting felons get amnesty? WTF? Do they not think the Ft. Dix Six relatives and every jihadi will be signing up as well? Idiots I tell ya.

Did they say who’s doing the health screenings?

I also like the idea of us paying for their legal fees if they can’t get back wages from employers and take it to court.

These are the same scumbags who ran outta town several times, not giving a damn if the troops had funding.

I saw many hypocrites on the tube today. Brownback one of them. McCain wouldn't even vote and as far as I know he was there. Whiny Little Harry at the end was disgusting about his little basketball. The number may be 3 or 300. It's not the number it's the substance. The substance of this bill written by special interest groups sucks for the American people. And his "I want to help the President", time for him to help me, I talked to Secretary Chertoff ... sick of him

My advise, put it into Committee and don't let it see the light of day until it's reasonable and fair to the American people. 1st step, no amnesty provision (Vitter's Amndt). 2nd step finish building the fence/wall (Coburn Amdt). 3rd step enforce the immigration laws on the books (Coburn Amdt). 4th place more border patrol and other surveillance means. 5th place ensure no tax dollars flow out to them until they are citizens (Sessions Amdts). 6th place pay back taxes and fines or ship them home (Maybe the House needs to do this one). 7th tinker with the quota numbers if necessary, not because you can. And over all limit this bill to illegal immigrants, not legal immigrants, not refugees, not political aslyum seekers, not internees from WWII.

I find it inconceivable if one senator was correct that normally we have 1.5M immigrants per year coming into this country and all of a sudden the "courageous senators who made the Grand Compromise" think we can handle 12M at once. What are they smoking?

Four small thinks we need from Congress Tax Reform, Immigration Reform, Social Security Reform and Medicare Reform. Can't get either. I think their paid for a job their not doing. H E Double Hockey Sticks, the majority of them don't even want to enforce the laws on the books as we saw today with Sen Coburn's Amendment. If they fell that way about immigration it's not a stretch to believe they fell that way about most laws.

I think Kyl has a fundamentally negative view of our chances in this struggle. I believe he thinks we are destined to lose, in the long run. Therefore, he probably thinks he’s doing “the Lord’s work” in fashioning the best bad bill he could get before Hitlery takes the reigns and....

Opposition is amnesty.

Right, that’ll stick.

Only in the United States Senate could such twisted nonsense be voiced and believed.
