OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- An arrest has been made in the homicide investigation of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith.
Late Wednesday night, police said Edwin R. Hall, 26, of Olathe, was being held in the Johnson County Jail in connection with the slaying of Smith.
Law enforcement crews combing a large wooded area near Longview Lake Wednesday found a body believed to be missing teenager Kelsey Smith, who was abducted from an Overland Park Target store parking lot Saturday night.
Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said Smith's body was found about 1:30 p.m. across the state line near Grandview, Mo., about 20 miles east of the abduction site.
Positive identification was pending, but Douglass said volunteer searchers could stop their work. He did not say how the woman was slain, but KMBC reported that there were signs of trauma to the body.
"As I understand she was found at a wooded area, but I can't say whether she was directly concealed by bushes," Douglass told reporters during an afternoon news conference.

If you think about it, in a case like this the death penalty is incredibly merciful and humane compared to what he deserves. In fact I think there is no kind of torture no matter how sadistic or extreme that would in any way be adequate punishment.
The horror of this poor girls last minutes alive is simply inconceivable. The pure evil that could do such a thing is icomprehesible.
No punishment we could devise would be adequate. If there were even the smallest amount of justice in the world this
creature would not have another second of life that was not filled with intense excruciating pain.
I know they used photo enhancement of the video at target...but wow, the enhancement didn’t give me a very good impression on what I thought he would look like. Too bad the videos had to be black and white.
I don’t mean to say anything about her personally. Just that we can know, we can plan, we can intend, and in the event all of that may not do us any good. I’m sick too.

Pics & information found here: (his wife is a "witness" and according to someone, he apparently has a young son)
“My girls are in college now but I still worry about them as much as I did when they were five. Will that level of concern ever subside?”
NO! My daughter is 27 and married, and I still worry about her! I think I worried more when she became a teen and more independent because I couldn’t watch over her like I did when she was little. My daughter was a good student and a good girl. I guess I worried about what might happen to her, like this poor girl. My grandma said that when your children are little, you have little worries; when your children get big, you have big worries. She was right!
I pray a lot!
See my #124, (i think,) more info.
That’s true about his walk.
I thought for sure he was going to be around 18-21yrs.
thanks for the info and link.
My friends and I were speculating as to whether he may have knocked her out when he shoved her in the car. Her friends (or family, not sure which) said she wouldn’t have gone without a fight. I guess we’ll find out when the “details” are revealed.
He looks fricken’ stoned in both photos. Soused and mean.
Neighbors reportedly are shocked, they were a “nice seeming little family” that didn’t cause trouble. I wonder what his wife will have to say.
I can think of two issues that need to be addressed.
The first is situational awareness. Color-coding is used to describe the degree of mental awareness that one is exercising with respect to their surroundings and possible threats. "Condition White", I believe, describes a person who is completely distracted by their own activities and wouldn't notice an attacker waiting nearby for an opportunity to pounce.
The second issue is that people need to act on the information that they get when they ARE aware of a potential threat. People will fail to act on a threat because they fear giving offense, being rude, or are embarrassed by their own, possibly mistaken, assessment of risk.
If the attacked girl had observed her surroundings carefully before unlocking her car, she might have spotted the attacker. He might just have been "loitering" without apparent cause, but that should be enough to cause the girl to take some evasive action.
As another poster commented, she could have thrown her car keys away from her so that her own car could not be used to abduct her. The distance to the attacker's car then becomes critical ground on which she needs to fight.
You’re welcome! :)

Does everyone have a MySpace? Geez.
I don’t have one, don’t need one, don’t want one.
That’s great, but in my daughter’s case I know that there are two registered sex offenders living in the mobile home park where she and her family live. One is just 6 mobile homes down from hers.
Last night I checked out familywatchdog.us and discovered 15 more living within a 2 miles radius and 3 in the little bitty town where the babysitter lives.
I think I’ll continue to remind her from time to time....as usual.
Teach them to yell “Kidnapper”. Otherwise people will turn their heads
thinking it’s a family issue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think that’s a very good idea...
Yeah, I found his wife’s site too. Geez, these kids are way to o personal online.
