Copy of letter I am sending to my 'Representative' Melissa Bean (D-IL):
I have come to the conclusion that the U.S. Senate has lost its collective mind. The Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007 is a travesty.
Have you read this bill? Have you read objective analysis of what this bill does to the rule of law, how it burdens the AMERICAN CITIZEN TAXPAYER and what it can do to workers and wages?
To me, there are 2 major flaws:
1. Triggers, and
2. Z Visas.
Triggers
Why in the world would we believe that these triggers will be enforced before anything else goes into effect. 700 miles of fence were approved, but NO FUNDING. There is a 12 WEEK backlog for passports, now required by DHS to travel to Canada and Mexico. And the ‘government’ is going to do BACKGROUND CHECKS, within 24 HOURS for a Z Visa? And you wonder why your approval rating is lower than El Presidente?
Z Visas
Where do I begin? This has to be the most ill conceived, slap in the face to American citizens and those here, or waiting to come here, legally. My solution:
1. Secure the borders;
2. Make English the OFFICIAL language of the United States;
3. Enforce the laws to penalize employers who hire illegal aliens;
4. Withhold federal funding to any state, county (e.g. Cook) or municipality that provides ‘sanctuary’ to illegals, and
5. Show us that you can accomplish all of the above before deciding what is going to be done about the 10, 12, 20, whatever million illegal aliens here now.
I am in favor of a fence and other technology to stop the flow of illegals.
I am in favor of a guest worker program – AFTER the flow of illegals is stopped.
I am in favor of some type of legalization of law abiding, assimilated, English speaking people – AFTER the flow of illegals is stopped.
Our country is at stake here. And the sad part is I don’t trust ‘you guys’ in Washington to preserve what we have accomplished over 200 years. I am not alone. It doesn’t matter who I talk to – Democrat, Republican, Citizen, Legal Immigrant – we are so frustrated with elitist Washington. All we see is pandering to special interest groups, pork projects, vicious partisanship, political correctness, spinelessness, lack of leadership and a whole lot of bullshit.
It’s time ‘you guys’ remembered who you are representing. It is not illegals. It is not corporations. It is not lobbyists. It is not unions. It is me and the rest of us hard working, tax paying, law abiding and VOTING ‘Joes’.
