KABUL, Afghanistan, June 5 The Afghan Defense Ministry said Tuesday that a boat full of fleeing Taliban fighters had been fired upon by NATO helicopters and sunk in the Helmand River, in southern Afghanistan. All on board, between 20 and 30 guerrillas, drowned, said Gen. Zaher Azimi, a ministry spokesman.
It was the second sinking on the river reported in recent days. Another boat, carrying about 60 people, sank Saturday in the same area, although there were conflicting reports as to whether those aboard had been civilians or Taliban fighters.
General Azimi said that in Tuesdays episode, NATO helicopters had fired on the boat after receiving fire from gunmen on the vessel.
He also reported heavy fighting elsewhere. Afghan troops were ambushed in Kandahar Province, also in southern Afghanistan. The soldiers called in airstrikes that killed an estimated 20 to 40 of the Taliban, General Azimi said. Two Afghan soldiers were killed and three others wounded over 24 hours, he added.
A member of the Taliban said one of five Afghan health workers kidnapped two months ago had been beheaded because Afghan officials refused to hand over the body of the Taliban commander Mullah Dadullah, who was killed last month. His body was shown to journalists in Kandahar and he was then buried in a secret location in the city, said Asadullah Khaled, the provincial governor.

I report, you decide...
Ah, the money shot. You knew the NYT couldn't report any good news so they had to throw the old, "Well they weren't in uniform so they may have been civilians." Even after 4 years they still try to screw us over.
Good start.
with all the good lines on this thread that one was the best!
Nice. He probably just picks up the phone and calls the friggin’ Taliban. Has them on speed dial for convenience.
BAHAHAHAHA I saw some of that video.
I don’t care what anybody says, I was laughing my arse off.
How many snail darters were killed by stray bullets?
We must quit shooting lead into the rivers without an environmental impact study. And what about the impact on the ecoology of the boat debris and organic pollution.- You know some LWL ( left wing loon) is going to bring this up in congress.

The ones on land do not appear safe either.
Their “spring offensive” has been baghdad bobbed.
A boat load of passengers headed to paradise!
Thanks. It was a late inning pinch hit.
Thanks! Its perfect!
They were trying to deploy to Okinawa....
A sub-editor, I believe.
“But, my thinks the NYT is trying to drum up some sympathy, as if they were shot in the back. No, they weren’t fleeing, they were merely regrouping, so as to plan and execute their next attack on civilization.”
Exactly. The reason Grant was able to beat Lee was because he relentlessly followed Lee’s retreating forces. Had Meade chosen to aggressively pursue Lee’s fleeing army at Gettysburg, the war might have been over a year earlier.
