Urban cowboy with holstered handgun arrested
Updated: 06/02/07 11:06 AM
A Best Street man was arrested late Friday on weapons possession charges after he was spotted by police wearing a holstered handgun in plain view.
The incident happened just before midnight. Samuel Shannon, 23, was walking north on Myers Street with the revolver in a black holster on the right side of his waist, according to police, and he tried to conceal the weapon with his sweat shirt when he saw a marked police car.
When police got out of the car, Shannon tried to remove the gun from the holster and was forcibly taken to the ground and into custody, officials said.
It makes perfect sense to me to be strappin' on yer hog iron if you're likely to meet up with some buffalo.
McCloud?
We just don't hyperventilate over weapons much here. Most likely, someone would approach the guy and ask what he's packing.
“Shannon tried to remove the gun from the holster”
Lucky he was not shot.
Guess those police never read the Bill of Rights in the US Constitution.
He missed his calling. He should have been a brain surgeon he's so smart.
Come on man, this is N.Y. after all. You should know you only hide your weapons in that state. And besides it’s illegal to have pistols in N.Y. so everyone knows no one has one there.
Open carry is legal here in Oregon, but I don’t know if I’d try it in Portland or Eugene.
Its also legal here in PA.
If he had walked down the street packin’ in London, there would be no end to the hyperbolic tabloid stories. Shocking! Brazen! Six live cartridges were found! In theory, twelve people could have been killed!
I hate to sound like an idiot, but I have always wondered whether this is illegal. I hear of people getting concealed weapons permits but what if it is not concealed? Shouldn’t you just be able to carry a gun? Second admendment and all that?
Open carry is OK here in AZ also and, believe it or not, Virginia.
Utah too. You can carry here without a permit as long as you carry in plain sight.
It’s quite COMMON to see people packing in Ol’ Montanny....ESPECIALLY during huckleberry picking season.
No, they’re not THAT valuable.
But, people’s children are and there’s enough bears around to make it reasonable.....or say you were by yourself.
Unfortunately, grizzly bears’ FAVORITE food [right after toursits] is the huckleberry......!!!
It’s legal to openly carry a weapon as long as you stay out of bars, banks, and federal installations. It’s quite COMMON to see ranch trucks with a .30-.30 [lever action] or mini 14 [semi auto] rifle hanging in plain view in the rear window for those chance encounters with coyotes, wolves, etc.
The only guy I’ve ever actually seen “pushing the envelope” was wearing a shoulder holster full of .45 cal. and some extra clips....on his way to do some wilderness camping [an “outfitter” and he just threw an unbuttoned shirt over his rig so as not to send the uninitiated into orbit. It was summer time and he was pressed for time down at the good ol’ Whitefish Army - Navy Store where I worked once upon a time.
“Its also legal here in PA.”
Not in “First Class Cities” — Philadelphia, Pittsburgh . . .
Concealed (with permit) only here in FL.
Is illegal to own a hand gun in NYC but you can own one in other parts of the state. It isn’t easy but you can get the permit if you try.
Let me get this straight.
The NYPD shoots a guy with a wallet, but not a guy with a gun?
WTF?
