When Ney and Cunningham were indicted, they were gone immediately.

Bob Ney left Congress two months after he entered guilty pleas. Duke Cunningham resigned effective immediately after pleading guilty. They both quit after a conviction, not an indictment. Because I can't find any reference to either of them being indicted, it seems likely that both waived the indictment and struck plea bargains.

MP>Ethics groups asks Pelosi to make Jefferson resign from congress
http://www.commondreams.org/news2007/0605-05.htm

The headline on that page is "Ethics Group Asks Pelosi to Seek Rep. William Jefferson's Resignation From Congress." Seek is not the same thing as make.

Pelosi has no power to force Jefferson to resign, though she can strip him of his seniority and all his committee assignments and basically make him feel about as welcome as a pork rind at a bar mitzvah.

The House can, by a simple majority vote, expel any member, but that traditionally isn't done without a conviction. Most convicted members of Congress resign immediately after being convicted, if not before; the only recent exception I can remember is Jim Traficant, who was expelled and is currently in federal prison.

What is the opinion of the Congressional White Caucas?

Oh wait. That would be racist.

It was William Jefferson's:

VICE-PRESIDENT Atiku Abubakar's wife, Jennifer, has been indicted in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) probe of US Congressman, William Jefferson, over bribery involving a transnational tele-communications deal. Jennifer resides in the Potomac, Maryland home of Atiku which was raided on August 3, 2005, by the FBI in connection with the bribery investigation.

In a report on Tuesday, the FBI revealed that a taped conversation between Jefferson and a wired Mody saw the embattled American lawmaker describing Jennifer as a "front". Jefferson told Mody that the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Gede Foundation, being operated in Washington by Jennifer, was a front, being used to channel illegal funds by the Atiku family.

Gede Foundation, according to the founder, was to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The affidavit recently unsealed by the FBI on the investigation also quoted Jefferson as describing Atiku Abubakar as "a businessman who has more deals than the man in the moon and he's a very well, the word might be... corrupt".

"What happened was I got an email from Nigerian General Kachinga Cheatchusuckah who had a problem."

So all of those e-mails that I get from "Barrister Zimbabuntubu" (and similar) about wanting to give me $10,000,000 becasue my long lost great, great, great, three times removed, uncle, passed away and left me with the money are TRUE!!!

[Since Katrina hit on or about August 29th, it doesn’t compute that it was the same freezer.]

Ok, I stand corrected.

Then the question is, what was so important about the freezer in his NO home that warranted his involving NG and others??

>>ROFL You mean Blanco? Your sarcasm is beautiful.<<

Well, she did such a magnificent job with Katrina, I’m sure she’ll appoint someone worthy of continuing the the William Jefferson legacy. In fact, I’d bet on it.

No appointments are possible for the U.S. House — it’s in the Constitution. Special elections are required, and the Jefferson district is 90 percent Democrat. People there really admire Jefferson as a “poor boy” done well.

I think you are forgetting Article 1 section 2 clause 4 but I was mainly trying to make fun of the governor... sorry about that.

>>Clause 4: When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.<<

The media will bury this then drop it because he is a black Dem.(protected species). Jefferson will get a free pass by the lib judge and lib jury in LA but Lewis Libby will rot in jail. The Nazi Media is getting a bit out of control. The last election empowered them, doesn’t anybody get it. We need another Reagan type to get beyond the Nazi media and address the people directly. Bush has failed to do this.
