Music publishers are stepping up their campaign to remove guitar tablature from the Net. Recently Guitartabs.com received a nastygram from lawyers for the National Music Publishers Association and The Music Publishers Association of America. These organizations want to stretch the definition of their intellectual property to include by-ear transcriptions of music. Guitartabs.com is currently not offering tablature while the owner evaluates his legal options.

I teach guitar for a living and I go to ultimateguitar for tabs but the other tab sites I use to frequent are closed down. I just tried ultimateguitar now and it too might be closed. Basically the music industry wants you to buy their music books but some artists are not at the point of having music books published, which is a shame if you are looking for their songs.

“I bought Double Platinum in the 4th grade.”
That was awesome! I was in 5th grade, I think. I thought that was the coolest album in the world, all silver with their faces contoured into the inner part of the double album. Ooo, and Alive II, I swear I wore those records out.

No, they used “Oom papa mow mow,” instead of “Papa Oom mow mow.” Big difference.

ftp.nevada.edu PING! Anyone else ever use that site? I remember downloading Pink Floyd & Queen tabs off of it back in 1991...
