Larry Flynt’s last effort to buy dirt on Washington politicians was what you might call a bust. But the Hustler publisher launched a new effort Sunday, offering $1 million for provable Potomac sleaze.
Readers of the print edition of Sunday’s Washington Post, will have seen the all-type, full-page ad as they turned from “Russia’s Champion of Hopeless Causes Is Targeted for Disbarment” to “U.S. Warship Fires Missiles at Fighters in Somalia.”
“Larry Flynt and Hustler Magazine announce a cash offer up to $1 Million,” the headline on page A17 says.
The ad explains: “Have you had a sexual encounter with a current member of the United States Congress or a high-ranking government official? Can you provide documented evidence of illicit sexual or intimate relations with a Congressperson, Senator or other prominent officeholder?
“Larry Flynt and HUSTLER Magazine will pay you up to $1 million if we choose to publish your verified story and use your material.”
It’s not clear from the ad if Flynt has anything particular in mind.
The offer is a reprise of the approach Flynt took in 1998, at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, when he bought a full-page ad in The Washington Post with a similarly worded offer. Flynt later said on CNBC’s “Rivera Live” that he had turned up information showing hypocrisy by a Republican congressman from Georgia, but the project never created the splash some in Washington had expected.
Flynt, who has called himself a “smut peddler who cares,” launched fringe candidacies for the Republican presidential nomination in 1983 and for California governor in 2003.
The new ad includes a toll-free number (800-251-2714), which answers with a recorded male voice saying: “Thank you for calling the Hustler Magazine hotline. Please briefly describe the information you would like us to consider, along with information on how we may contact you. We will get in touch with you if we are interested in your information.” The ad also lists an e-mail address, hustler@lfp.com.
The bottom of the ad says: “Paid for by Larry Flynt and Hustler magazine.”
If Flynt has better luck this time offering cash for trash, that announcement may apply to an article, not just an ad.

Good. And once Flynt outs Republicans that have had a sex scandal someone else can offer a million dollars for a Democratic sex scandal.

I agree. This is one of the few things I like about flynt. We can get rid of the slim in government. But no one is going to do this with the democrats.

I know of a sex scandal. Seems that a certain presidential candidate and senator from NY has a husband who is known to have had various, um, encounters with a 23 year old intern.
