Just when the dust was beginning to settle following President Bush's latest assault on common sense, in which he accused conservatives of "spreading fear" by being honest about amnesty, Senator John McCain decided that fear mongering was not such a bad tactic after all. In fact, McCain decided that fear mongering was essential in trying to sell his amnesty snake oil to a skeptical and increasingly suspicious public.
On June 2, McCain rolled out his fear-based defense of amnesty on the campaign trail in Le Mars, Iowa. Responding to a question about deportation of illegal aliens, McCain delivered the following dilly: "In case you hadn't noticed, the thousands of people who have been relegated to ghettos have risen up and burned cars in France,'' McCain said. "They've got huge problems in France. They have tremendous problems. The police can't even go into certain areas in the suburbs of Paris. I don't want that in the suburbs of America.''

Between the lines, what I think Osterlund is trying to get across is to not let our relative affluence undermine our civic responsibility.
Unfortunately, that is now the persuasive language of the “progressives”, who twist such notions into sacrifice at the altar of the Public Sector.
I like the Armed Citizenry. Those old dead white men had it right a couple-hundred-and-change years ago.

"I wonder if McCain is hoping that his remarks will encourage them to riot now so we'll let them have amnesty to stop the riots? I wouldn't put it past him!" That's a genuinely scarey thought.

Over 38,000 Latinos Attend Event
Fort Worth - Over 38,000 people from all over DFW metroplex attended the annual celebration of Dia de la Raza in La Gran Plaza in Fort Worth. In addition to live music and other entertainment, the event offered exhibits, games, raffles, and food and product samples. As a major sponsor of the event, Pizza Patrón exhibited a strong presence, hosting a prize tent and offering pizza by the slice. Branded vehicles were on display in strategic areas to promote brand awareness. The Patrón tent was a nonstop flurry of activity with customers enjoying fresh pizza while they played for prizes. At times, the demand for pizza was almost overwhelming. With the help of a store located near the event, managed by Manuel Chavez, the Pizza Patrón team was able to make the most of this great community event. "It's great to see how much people enjoy interacting with us at these events, and we were also able to let new customers know about my store" said Chavez. Pizza Patrón features festive and fun carryout-only pizza stores that are community based in Spanish speaking or predominately Hispanic neighborhoods. The units are open from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11:00 a.m. to midnight on Fridays, 12:00 p.m. to midnight Saturdays, and 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays. The menu is value oriented, offering high quality, freshly prepared pizzas at very low price points. All pizza dough is made fresh throughout the evening; no preservatives are added or needed. The sauce is prepared fresh in the stores, as well, from crushed Roma tomatoes. Only 100% mozzarella is used. Whole and half pizzas are offered at prices as low as $4.99 for a large pizza with cheese and one topping and $3.49 for the same half pizza. A large deluxe pizza with everything is only $6.99. not let our relative affluence undermine our civic responsibility. I agree and we have become fat, dumb and happy so to speak. We've enjoyed our prosperity and let lapse our responsibilities especially over the last 40 years or so. Us baby boomers have not been nearly as involved as we should have been.
Those old dead white men had it right a couple-hundred-and-change years ago.
Yeah, we may be more "advanced" but they were not so dumb after all even if they were "evil". /s

I think you are on to something. It sounds like McCain is using Segolene Royal's tactic of threatening that there will be violence if she didn't get her way. It didn't work in the French election and I hope it doesn't work here. Beyond that, I suspect that McCain would be the first to call out the authorities against American citizens if we tried to stop illegal alien rioters ourselves.

“In case you hadn’t noticed, the thousands of people who have been relegated to ghettos have risen up and burned cars in France,’’ McCain said. “They’ve got huge problems in France. haha
McCain...why are you a candiate? Seriously!?
Who are your supporters?....

“Comparing the Muslim youths in France to the illegals here are comparing apples and oranges!”
Exactly! Ones fire, and the other is slow implosion.
I would take our situation over France’s...any day. Although France actually changed their laws and are atleast trying to head in a better direction. Can’t say the same for us Americans.

If there were illegal alien riots, he, as President, would more than likely send out federal troops--to protect the illegals--and to contain or even kill patriotic Americans who rose up in counter mass, in order to protect their property, fellow citizens and country from these lawless invaders.
I am getting really tired of this McCain fellow. Really.

That time in the Hanoi Hilton really took away McCaniacs backbone.
Well at least the rioters will let the police know who they are so they can be deported after a lengthy jail sentence faster.

This time John the rioters might just be those patriot Americans fed up with being hosed by threatening politicians like you and the gang in Washington.

You know, in the back of my mind I did wonder whether this capitulating was based on fear of creating this type of reaction when they decided to enforce our laws. My response: If this will be the reaction, do we really want them here legally anyway?

Sounds like a suggestion to those who support this amnesty doesn’t it? “If you don’t get your way, you could always riot”... What is this world (country) coming to?

They sure are...
I hate to say it, but after living in West Denver I have thought it was only a matter of time frankly... I agree they probably will riot, but what is the alternative... Giving in? No thanks...
