Just found this article online, has some good things to say about Fred, then the ending is a bit rude, or gnat-ish, you might say. :-)

Oh Good Lord.
I am sure he is a good man and all, but this is just getting ridiculous.

(Just Say NO ....To Liberal Republicans - FRED THOMPSON FOR PRESIDENT!)
To: pillut48
I'm growing weary of this Reagan mythology. Why can't a Fred Thompson exceed Reagan? He probably won't exclipse Reagan in a number of areas, but why can't he strive to do better than Reagan, especially when it comes to smaller government and actual results?
To: pillut48
Thompson himself rejects the idea he is another Reagan. “There has only been one Ronald Reagan, and there will never be another.”

“And Mr Sabato sounds a note of caution in relation to his political message. “The voters don’t know him, 95% have no clue who he is other than in his Hollywood role.”
That does have some truth to it, my dad who doesn’t always follow politics, and hates watching the news, lately he told my mom (who is the polar opposite of my dad, and actually follows politics), that he was a Romney supporter. However today he was visiting my house and he flipped on my tv and Fox News was on, and they were doing a story on Fred, and my dad said, “Who the heck is Fred Thompson?” so I had to tell him :).

I don't think Fred is as across-the-board conservative as Reagan was, but IMHO he is way better in that regard than any of the 3 pygmies who currently lead the GOP field in the polls. He voted conservative on most isues in the Senate, but he voted for a few things that I'm pretty sure that RR would have opposed.
His vote record on the major hot-button issues was conservative except for his aye vote on McCain-Feingold which he now says he regrets. But that isn't quite good enough for me. Any Senator who respects the Constitution should have known better than to vote for that abomination. Still, he is the only candidate with a real chance of winning the nomination and possibly the general election who has enough conservative credentials to get my vote.
Hunter would be a more conservative president IMHO and I would gladly vote for him if I thought he could win, but his chances of winning in '08 are somewhere between zip and nada. I would say put him in the 2nd spot on the '08 ticket with whoever is nominated, and he would soon have the necessary name/face recognition to run at the top of the ticket in another 4 or 8 years.

"Potentially people are more familiar with him but there's an over-estimation of how much fame Law & Order has brought him," he says. "It's not as if the Republicans are running Brad Pitt."
Good thing, too. I hear Brad has a bit of a B.O. problem.
